Park a comfy chair down amongst some flowers. Probably more around than you know!I had one of those Hawk Moths fly in the house long ago. He was vibing on the floor lamp, nearly as big as a small hummingbird and looked more like a bird. Maybe a 3" long body. Amazing and somewhat rare creatures up here. I've seen two in 20+ years.
Could be, but most are very skittish. There are only about half a dozen species at my place that settle long enough to photograph. We get some black butterflies that seem to be attracted to a mimosa tree we have.
The black flutterbyes do not sit still, maybe some thermal issue (?).
Very difficult to photograph.
Awesome!! Keep hanging around those coneflowers and you should see plenty more! Mine aren't blooming yet.Just this morning, out walking my dog. If I read the descriptions online, it’s a Western Tiger Swallowtail. Usually, if at all, I might get a picture like this:

But this one circled back around and landed on flowers next to the sidewalk.

…and these will be about as close as I’ve come, at least for this year, so far.
That Hummingbird Moth up at the top is no slouch! Many people do not realize they are NOT hummers!Having been a helicopter pilot for many years I have a great appreciation for the hummingbird's ability to hover. We have several pairs of them hanging around our house and taking advantage of all our flowers. Love watching them fly.
