image.jpg Hey Guys, I'm sorta new here. I'm looking for some info, I'm building a 480ish guitar, I've got the body cut to shape, but don't want to continue until I'm sure of the p/u placement and cavity depth, I'm hoping someone might be able to give me the measurements for each p/u from the neck and an approximate to the bridge. I just want to check these with a real one to ensure that my calculations are correct before I begin routing. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Btw I'm building this off of a bass guitar plan and I'll be using single coils in it

    Hi,
I don't know if you have made any progress in determining the pickup location?

I've been a lifelong fan of the 480; it's a gorgeous shaped guitar.

I've never owned one and at the price they go for these days I won't ever be owning one!!

I did play one 30+ years ago and really loved it, my lifelong passion was assured at that point.

If I have done things correctly I have attached a JPG image showing a front and rear view of a 480, it should be possible to quite accurately scale form the image because the camera was 'square-on' to the guitar and there would be minimal distortion as a result.

I found the image sometime in the past and added it to my collection of guitar related stuff in the hope that one day I would have time to build myself a 480 replica.

I hope this might help. Please update the forum on how the build is progressing and show us some photos of the finished guitar.

    Cheers for now

    Thanks Spartan, It's
been a little crazy lately! I'm a stay at home dad, I do cabinetry and woodworking on the side and build guitars for myself. I have not made any more progress yet. I've got a big entertainment center I'm building for a customer. Hopefully be finishing up soon, and I'll have the money for my parts and stuff. I appreciate your input as well as the pic. It's by far my favorite guitar body as well! I'm putting a walnut top on it. And white binding and pickguard. I'll post more as progress moves along!

I'm also toying with the idea of a standard ric pup in the neck with a filtertron in a tele bridge. Not quite sure yet I'm shooting for something different maybe just a hot standard tele bridge pup? Still up in the air on this.

Thanks, I've also been mapping out a body design for myself.
Which I will attempt to build next. This is my 3rd build from scratch, so this one isn't perfect but I think it's going to play very well... We shall see

    Very nice!
I always loved that cresting wave design that Rickenbacker used.

That's what prompted me to build it. Well that and the price of the 480 these days..
