Maybe, maybe not. Specs show that it could be, but it's also an extremely easy thing to fake. Contours would have been added later, I'd think. Without hard proof, he's dreaming on the price. "This old guy told me so" isn't worth much.

I‘ve never heard of contoured bodies in the beginning of Esquires/Tellys. The string ferrules are too straight for an early body. The price is nonsense, by the way. And not a bit of a proof.

But that’s just me, maybe I‘m totally wrong.

There's a lot more wrong than just the ferrules.

By no means an expert but in the 6th pic shouldn’t there be a rougher transition at the tight curve near the neck pocket? Sort of a bump?

From what I understand the Hump was an artifact from the size of the router bit used early at the Fender factory

No router hump and no jack flat on prototype Esquires.

My prototype Esquire Frankenstein project when it was nearing the end of its construction. Notice: no router hump and no jack flat.

    Absolutely not.

A prototype wouldn't have a comfort carve and there is no certification. Even if it did come from a Fender employee, it was probably one body among many that they think may have come from that period but cannot be sure.

Even if it is legit, the wood is rotten which makes this overpriced.

    Here are some pics

The neckplate area doesn't look right to me on the listing and looks more in-line with the modern teles due to the spacing.

Compare this to the pic of the Broadcaster prototype above.

It could be exactly what the seller is saying it is. People above who are saying "prototypes should have this or that" are forgetting that there could have been several prototypes made with different features. The problem though, as others have noted, is that there is no way to prove one way or the other. That's a huge problem for a $50K asking price.

I have no evidence or provenance but give me $50,000 for what could be a stripped Squier body,

$50,000 for a piece of pine with no provenance whatsoever?

It's either a 48 Esquire prototype or some kid's botched woodshop project from 2004.

It's more than likely a fender body, he has enough other fender cast offs for sale that his story makes sense his price doesn't. The 59 strat is more interesting if still over valued.
I think if he could provide a letter from the employee stating how he got the body and what it was it might be worth $500.

Even if it is legit, no slab of wood is worth that.

Check out the sellers other items

He has “unfinished” necks that are basically just neck shaped wood that he wants a lot for
