Do you, or have you ever, tuned to A=432Hz?

See now that is how you connect reference pitch to larger meaning.

advantageous actually. You can get really cool heterodyne-y stuff with dyads and gain.

There is a perceptual effect that when played something at a lower pitch in reference to a higher one, we prefer the lower. Sort of like how Eb standard sounds “sweeter” (at least, to a lot of us). I think that’s why I went down to C from C# standard, then down to B, and sometimes Bb for hardcore punk stuff. The riffs just keep sounding more gooderer.

In Europe I find I’m less bugged by 50hz than 60hz too...but that could just be because I don’t have as negative of an association hunting for it yet.

But anyway, I don’t think 432 is appreciable enough without reference (whereas a half step I guess is far away enough from pitch memory) to make a difference though.

I'm game to try but our drummer refuses to go along.

I belong to another music site and I think yesterday someone posted a thread on 432 tuning.

All I can say is wow the posting was grouchy as heck.

It was like they were trying to run the 440, but saying it's really 432...
and everyone had left the tuning stadium!

Ok, but the unit of time used to define Hz (a second) is an arbitrary length of time. It’s got nothing to do with any universal constant.

So your saying that there are no marshmallow unicorns or rainbows to the

center of the earth. No stairway to heaven, no reason to hold hands sing kumbiya and shave whales? Maybe you should have eaten some LSD. I know my 69 Dodge Charger was in tune with the universe. Or at least it sounded like it.

This has gone as well as it did when the OP posted the same thing on Talk Bass.
