That be the one! I've seen them in Sunburst, Natural & see thru Red. Most people now associate them with Keith Urban, but this model is one of the first Tele's I played and have been Jonesin' for one for awhile but I never see them for sale. (I was a Strat guy for a long time!)
Thanks for the pic!
Ajay just picked up a beautiful red one.
I'm with you Johnny. Would love to find one too. My final Grail.
Any shade will do...
Great guitars...I've had three! Some have the sigs of the old Masterbuilders of that era in the neck pocket.....like John Page,Fred Stuart,Mike Stevens.
They still crop up for sale from time to time but you have to beat Keith Urban to them cos he likes to buy 'em up!Prices are $4000 ish aswell now!
Here's mine, I got it at the Arlington Guitar Show several years ago.
At the risk of being repetitive, here are some photos of the one I just bought...
Yeah the 40th Anniversary is my favorite Tele, maybe even over a blackguard
Csapo: Love that sunburst 40th pic
Ajay: good to see a fellow Oz on here, no.099 hey nice find! Trans red is beautiful! Can i ask where u found her? Have u checked for sigs?
It's a little crazy but I'm slowly gathering pics of the 40th teles from owners, got quite a few so far, once i get a few more I want to make a website for them all. no. 098 is a sunburst & very worn
Oh my god. GREAT pics.
I found one about a month ago, here in San Francisco. I was shocked to finally come upon one.
Price was $4k plus it had a gold autograph/signature on the front butt, below the control plate. This gold sig really bothered me as did the $4k price tag.
I got them to come down to $3800.00, but I walked away. In my mind, the Tele was flawed and if I'm spending that kind of $$$, it has to stock and close to mint.
I did a bit of consulting with Ajay and he was gracious enough to give me some terrific insight.
I got close but just not in the cards...
Forgot to mention it was a red 40th.
Hey Justin, Mine came to me, I didn't have to find it, so I was very lucky. What happened was a guy who I had bought another guitar from earlier, knew I was a Tele collector, so when his friend had to sell it, he gave me the option to buy it. What a nice man
I have to say that sometimes it pays to be a collector for that reason alone.
Don't worry mate! One will come your way when you least expect it... maybe some will be sold soon due to financial stress...
Please stop posting pics of these Tele's. Do you know what it's doing to me?
$4k, wow, don't people know the world's in financial meltdown?
Heck, I'm in financial meltdown and I need one of those 40th anniversary models now. They're real beauts.
(only kidding about the pics, keep 'em coming. If I can't have, at least I can drool).
I remember seeing one signed by Alan Jackson a while back, could be the same one.
Hey Ajay... if you ever strip her down take a look at those sigs under the pups...take a pic and post...they are all different.
The 40th anniversary tele that mellecaster posted is mine (thanks mc). Here's another shot of it.
When it first appeared in my favorite electric guitar store, I gushed about it to my wife. She secretly got it for me for Christmas that year. I had no idea that it would become somewhat of a legend. Since Keith Urban is collecting them, I guess that makes it an Urban legend (sorry).
It is highly unlikely that I will take it apart...I would probably not get it back together again...
hehe, next time it needs strings, just whip the p/guard off
That might be quite a while...it doesn't get played, being a collectable guitar!
