I did some shows for a local community radio station. They kept detailed records of what was played date and time. You may try to reach out to the station and see if you can get that information assuming you remember the time and date of the show.
I’ll try hard to remember but it’s all a bit foggy after all these years. I used to have it recorded on cassette tape (ask your mum and dad kids😉) but that was in a few previous lives ago…

Would be nice to know what genre of music we are searching for... metal, hard rock, rap, disco, country, opera... etc etc...

If you know how to use the microphone symbol in Google on your phone (if you have one)... hum some of the melody into that thing and it might tell you the song...

Hi everyone, I finally got the answer thanks to a very knowledgeable gentleman on Facebook with a dedicated Friday Rock Show theme. He actually remembered the song! The band were Niagara and the song was called Across the Bridge. It was one song in a four track session on the show back on 18 September 1981. The other songs were Crossfire, Victim of Love and Cold Eyes. The band never released anything commercially so no wonder the search took so long! Thank you to everyone who gave me suggestions, after 42 years I can finally call off the search.

That's super obscure. There's nothing online about this.
