So I’ve been gassing for a Telecaster lately and there’s one listed at a pawn shop for $350 about 45 minutes away from me. It’s from 1998 and the guitar is in good condition with some scuffs and marks on it. I haven’t tried it out yet but I might go check it out this weekend.

That money might get you a nicer MIM closer by on Craigslist if you keep an eye out.

MIMs have crept up, not sure you can find them less than that anymore, in any condition. My tele is my fav electric guitar, some worth more than $5k. 20 years ago, they were a favorite in Nashville amongst the session players, club players, sidemen, everybody.

It's a nice guitar, no question about that. I sold my '99 MIM Strat a couple of months ago for $400, so the price ain't bad.

    The price is fair.
I wouldn’t spend any more than that.

If it’s in make-playable condition, and no significant damage other than being 22 years old then sure.

15 years ago I bought a MIM from 1997 for $250 Those are supposedly the best years for MIM and mine has certainly stood the test of time

The only thing that would stop me would be the thought do I have 350.00 for it.
And of course how it plays.

pawn shop might be willing to take $300 cash; if you want to negotiate, but be prepared to walk.

    Lots of guitars out there.

But, as mentioned $350 ain't bad. Just make sure you like how it plays and that all switches, pickups and jacks are in working order. If not, adjust price, etc. good luck whatever you do.

Prices on MIM guitars tend to fluctuate, but the telecasters seem to sell for more than the strats, and I see less of them.

Before you go and wheel and deal, get on the internet and check all CL listings and FB Marketplace for towns around your area and make sure there are no better deals on Tele's, than the one you're looking at.

I'd even check on prices of Tele's in cities that are even several hours away.

Make copies of other deals on Tele's that might be better, and make copies of the prices.

Use these prices and ANY and ALL bruises and scars to use as reasons the get a better deal.

I would do what I suggested above, and offer $225, and then maybe meet somewhere between $225 and $350.

Good luck on snagging that Tele.
