way back on August 16, 1977...i was preparing to start my junior year of college. the news was stunning at the time. i can only imagine what the coverage would've been like had there been today's 24/7 news channels.

The King still rakes in the cash...one the highest earning dead celebs with 55 million dollars earned in 2009.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard on the old AM radio station that EP had died. School hadn't started yet, but football practice had, so my mother was driving me up to the practice field at around 4:00 central time. I was sitting in the passenger seat of our '67 Chevy. The radio dj sounded so serious.

I remember it. I was 4 days shy of turning 15...

Mom finally got to see him at the Norfolk Scope just before that. She was devastated.

I hate to tell you this, but I see Elvis quite regularly, riding his ten speed on his way into his job at the 7-11. He always goes out into the parking lot to practise his kung fu during his dinner breaks.....

Actually, I gotta confess... my dirty little secret.... when Elvis died, I could have cared less. Perhaps because I didn't play guitar at the time. It took me about three years after his death to really realize his impact he had on our culture, and just how good his early music was/is.

Funny though... I still remember where i was when I heard the news. Driving in Dad's '65 Comet on a lazy summer afternoon.

Yes, the Sun Sessions were Elvis's heyday! He did a few other great ones later like New Orleans, King Creole, His Latest Flame, etc. but his early stuff was when he was hungry.
I remember the morning I heard it on TV. I was stunned. I took my 1 year old out for a long walk in the stroller and reminisced on what an influence he was.

Oh, and for you cinema freaks you MUST see the film called "Bubba-Ho-Tep"
    It is truly un-believable !!!!!!!

    Thanks, Middy!

My sweetheart's ex hubby's birthday is January 8, (Elvis' birthday), and my birthday is Elvis' death date.

She thinks that's pretty cool.

I've said this many times so it is a bit redundant, however:

I used to skip public school in the early 60s to catch the latest Elvis flick at a theatre that opened at 9:30 am! Yep. I was an Elvis junkie.

Viva Las Vegas ... and Ann Margret to boot! (BTW: She's still hot, a cougar if there was one.)

I know it was at a Piggly Wiggly convention (my grandfather owned a Piggly Wiggly back in the day). Not sure where, though. I think she actually got to sit and have breakfast with him.

I was 8, but remember it vividly. We had stopped in Clovis, NM for the night to camp on our way to Colorado. We found out shortly after pulling into the KOA. Even being that young, I can still picture every detail of my surrounding when I found out. It was that big of a deal.
