A friend of mine was recently offered a '58 and '59.
The '57 gold top seen is his, he said that there wasn't a big enough difference
between his '57 and the other two, so he passed on them.
Must be nice, I can only dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All three are Gorgeous.
This is curbside service at its FINEST.
    Enjoy!!

'57 was the golden year for Les Pauls. Golden. That's when they reached their basic configuration - stop tailpiece, ABR-1, humbuckers. There were still the necks to sort. But they were... golden. And they are my birth year guitar as well.

Now, your friend's gold top is is in gorgeous shape!

Does your friend's business involve the import a lot of stuffed animals from Colombia?

Second best is fine with me thanks, can't decide between the '58 & '59 though, can you swing by my house with them for a closer look?

Are the necks as nice as the early 60s Melody Maker that is in the photo ? How do they differ in size ?

Nice opportunity to have a seat & compare A/B in hand, at home before deciding what sounds/feels best.
    Cool pics

I might have an unpopular opinion but out of those three particular guitars I think the '57 Goldtop looks the best.

    Me too!

I know this does not have the pedigree of a '57 to '59 LP, and I don't have any photos,

but about 5 years ago I tagged along with a few buddies to a private home/guitar dealer in VA. ( one of the guys had a few guitars he was looking to sell...)

Anyway, for kicks, the dealer starts bringing out some of his collection for me to check out, thru a '66 Vibrolux Reverb ( quietly) including an ALL GOLD '52 Les Paul. WOW!!!!!
( everything gold except the headstock face)

This guitar was SO easy to play, had that out of phase/ Freddie King sound, with both pickups ON, and also crystal clear P-90's ( at this low volume)

Dealer said " That's about $30K you're holding there, " which is when I handed it back to him!
