It's hard to pick favourites, they change all the time.

But the first one that sprang to mind today:

Wishbone Ash - Throw Down The Sword from the Argus album. Any track from that album could be here, really.

The closing solo is just magical to me. I first heard this track on a pair of decent headphones when I was about 13 - blew me away, still does.

Enjoy the whole track, or jump to 3.40 for the solo.

My first pick is by a west coast bluesman named Layafette Thomas. His first solo resonates with daring and confidence-like a high wire act that could fail at any time. And yes, I know that's a picture of Mississippi John Hurt-no idea why.

The second is by Barney Kessel (almost any solo). Barney's my favorite jazz guitarist because I always hear some blues in there and it anchors his music for me...like there's at least one foot on the ground. And he's not afraid to bend a string.

My third is Ray Flacke's solo at 1:45 on Highway 40 blues. I have not heard a Telecaster solo more daring yet executed with such finesse at this. Ray was having a good day when he recorded this.

The first three that come to mind are 1) Sweet Child o’ Mine, 2) Alive by Pearl Jam, and 3) Beat It (solo by EVH)

Not sure those would be my favorites if I really thought about it, but those were memorable from my childhood and teen years.

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road.

I appreciate it's a REALLY long song, so if you absolutely have to it's from about 9:45...

Dave Gilmour Shine On You Crazy Diamond was the sound that first made me really want to play guitar, and re-create what I was hearing.

The other track I discovered about the same time and moved me more than any other music had before was Jimi - Hey Joe.
