There's so many cliche' choices for Ritchie Blackmore, but this one from Rainbow (during the Dio era) always makes me smile--so subtle, so smooth, so *not* what a "guitar hero" might choose to play:

Always appreciated how "hummable" Randy Rhodes made things. It's metal tapping, but it's not a flurry of notes for the sake of it.

My favorite of his. Actually, sort of tied with my favorite from a guy who imitated him alot:

Lastly, i don't know why, but this solo always stuck with me.

Which is odd because it's not the most impressive (pull my strings) or catchy (Police trucks batman sounding solo) East Bay Ray recorded, but it worked its way into my playing at probably age 15/16, right as I was trying to move away from pentatonic Chick Berry ripoff and toward things that worked with the basic melody without just copying the sound of the lyrics.
Misfits - We Are 138
Electric Eels - Anxiety
French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson - Drowned Dog Black Night outro
We are 138s solo is quick and effective, I forget about it sometimes (because I haven't covered thst song since like 2009).

Boy, there are so many. Hotel California comes to mind (if you consider the over heard songs!) That is a perfect tone solo that "tells a story" not just a bunch of notes. Phrasing at it's best.

David Lindley on some of Jackson Browne's stuff like Late for the Sky etc.

Much of the Duo Allman Bros stuff is very melodic and nice and add harmony also!

Robben Ford's solo's just slay me on some tunes. Also PHRASING at it's best.

Come to think of it, melody and phrasing are what makes all of these so great.

I hate these threads. Partially because of the vast numbers of great solos out there, partially because I'm just a pain...

1. Ride my See-Saw
2. Hotel California
3. Landslide

Youch! Kinda impossible, and entirely mood-driven. But noticing the most common ones in the mood-cycle =
The "Let It Be" solo:

The Stones' "Time Waits for No One":

Jefferson Starship's "Runaway." Can't stand the key change and some of the lead singing, and the overproduction (until the last chorus) is meh. But from 3:20 onward....beautiful. I'm not usually a fan of speedo-notes, but this is done just right.

Can't be left out:
From 5:06 onward. The way he builds a castle out of a Strat's lacy bells--wow. Knopfler can be a genius.

And honorable mention for this scratchy-Tele less-is-more greatness. Robbie Robertson here at 3:22--it's just haunting. A trapped soul crawling up its wall, as best it can. In these 30 seconds, so much of human nature is given voice. Yep, this is my #1, after all.
