    Okay, finally strung up, and kickin it. Bookmatched Flamed Maple top over Alder, with a Flamed Maple neck, and Flamed Maple fingerboard. Wilkinson string-thru bridge with compensated brass saddles. EMG T-system pickups, Sperzel locking tuners.

    I know I should post a sound clip, but I'm not sure anyone wants to hear my playing. My son is coming in this weekend, so I'm hoping to talk him into doing a demo. IMG_5876.jpg

    ps, does anyone know how to get a waterslide decal to stick to a natural oil finish? I've tried 3, and all have just fallen off by the next day. I was thinking possibly a very thin coat of Tru-oil just where the decal goes.

    A little update/progress on the triple build. Yesterday, I leveled the fingerboards on the remaining 2 builds. Today, I fretted them, then shaped the neck for the quilt top. I've had all the parts to complete them for awhile, but got sidetracked doing other things. I'm just finishing up a headless, so it should be soon that these get the needed attention.

    Those are stunning - beautiful work. I like the oil finish on the flametop guitar, looks buttery smooth, bet it feels great!

    Burl Tele is up next, made the needed templates and routed out the cavities today. EMG T system pickups, that's why the smaller route for the neck.

    sandwich the decal between thin wash coats of shellac.
    let each layer dry thoroughly.
    as always, fresh shellac made from flakes is best, 1# cut or even less for this operation.
    apply the the topcoat of shellac carefully and don't overbrush, or you'll just ruin/brush out the decal.
    you can then put oil on top of the shellac, if you feel the need.

    Todays progress, string thru holes, neck pocket, input jack, and wiring chases drilled. Body round overs front and back, and of course more sanding.

    Burl Tele mock up after buffing and polishing. Neck still needs a few more coats of Tru-Oil.
