I had just read an old post about making a guitar in Danelectro style. I looked around the garage and found an old 2x4 stud and some 1/4-inch MDF. I figured, "What the heck?" So here I am. After gluing and shaping, I applied fabric to the top and back. Then I painted the sides black, and taped off a 1/4-inch faux binding. Then I painted the sides red, and lacquered the whole thing. I just finished wet sanding and buffing the body tonight. I'm working on the neck now. Got a ways to go, but it's been fun so far.

That's coming along really nice! Bold fabric, it's sure got a vibe.

Can you share the old post? I think I have enough scraps to try this.

Dang, that's really nice!! It also points out that sometimes it's easy to get so fixated on "traditional/common" build techniques that we can forget that there are other equally valid ways to make a body. This particular method can be really economical, both for serious builds and for experimental builds. Great job on that fabric work, too...that's something on my own bucket list at present to try.
