Hello, im new here so please go easy on me.
Am just starting to acquire all the parts/pieces and knowledge to attempt my 1st from scratch build
am attempting a single pickup tele shaped bolt on beast beast in a form similar to a bolin supermodel, but the body will be made of mahogany in tv yellow, non weight relieved with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.
Now to my question.....
With regards to the scale length and heel joint what would you all go for either
1. keeping the neck pocket to original spec and making the scale with a fingerboard extension
or
2. routing the cavity longer and keeping the fingerboard and neck one solid lump
i.e instead of being 3.002 x 2.135 (standardish neck pocket size) making it say 4 x 2.135 to accommodate the shorter scale length
I wish to keep the bridge in the standard place of course.
Hope all this made sense

Since you are set on keeping the bridge in the standard location I'd recommend going with the relocated fingerboard/conversion style neck approach and keep the standard pocket.

That way your body and neck are not a one trick ponies. The body would also be able to accomodate a Fender scale neck at a later date, and the neck could also be mounted on any other Fender scale body.
