Most of us know these, but I just thought I’d post it for the heck of it.

I think that #20 deals with dexterity, and that is the one I disagree with the most.
Although I agree with the premise, I am still the clumsiest person I know!!!

The only problem with this article is that, they don’t cite the “scientific studies”.

after thinking about it quite a bit, i realize i play guitar because i want to grasp something transcendent. i had other reasons mixed in with that a long time ago, but that is the one that still stands. to find a moment or moments of a nirvana i have no other way to touch.

Some of those seem like a stretch and could be replaced with other reasons.

Such as:

You get chicks hitting on you who are turned-on by the guy working hard on stage, playing guitar and singing.

You see people appreciate your efforts. Smiling, drinking, partying. Singing their lungs out. Making eye contact. It feels awesome to see the joy that you are providing.

You have a great excuse to close the door in a spare room and practice alone. Some great alone time. Extremely effective when the mother-in-law is visiting.

When your kids are young and its bed time, you can finger-pick lullaby songs while sitting on their bed. Its fun and they love it too. Extra practice time!

Once you learn guitar it often leads to joining a band. After a few months in a band you will really understand all the bass player, drummer, lead singer jokes. You’ll enjoy those jokes way more as you can relate first hand

I started playing again about 9 months ago. I hadn't played in decades. I had developed some cognitive issues after a bad reaction to a chemotherapy drug. I was having trouble with memory and things like conveying thoughts in speaking and writing. I still see a neurologist and physical therapist. When I told my neurologist about playing the guitar again he said it was an excellent idea. So far, I have had some small success. I don't know about the self confidence thing though. I'm still that guy that turns the amp really low if I'm trying a guitar at a music store. :)

I have read several similar articles based on music and learning an instrument that coincides with much of what this article is saying.
But, what effect does having several guitars accessible have on the subject? Does that add stress, deciding which instrument to use, and what CD am I going to work with today?
But, it's a problem that I enjoy contemplating every day of my life.

I like how it builds up callusses on the fingertips of just one hand. That’s a bit weird, no?

Cheers,

Dopamine, the feeling you get when you can play through something you couldn't before, and it prevents me from thinking too much. Which is a good thing, focusing on playing and not the daily crap.

I wonder if you can get addicted, like this guy :

Roger Tullgren, 42, is unable to hold down a full-time job because of his love of rock.

sources, because i am a serious researcher.

edit i think it might be a joke article.

I can't disagree with any of the points raised in the article, it may apply to most instruments but the guitar seems to have that combination of accessibility, portability and ubiquity that other instruments don't have.

I've been playing and obsessed with guitars since way back when I thought 'my special purpose' was for peeing over high walls so it wasn't for reasons of female attraction.

I've just enjoyed 45+ years of transcendent daily moments like @thunderbyrd mentioned.
Those moments where time stands still while the clocks in the other rooms spin like kitchen fans.
