Looks like a simple turnbuckle, such as is used to adjust squareness on gates and suchlike.
What a coincidence. My wife got me because I’m a junkie tool.I think this is an early manual drill press. Bought it because I’m a tool junkie.

One of those came with my Ibanez ST-50 in 1982. I still have it & to this day I don't have a clue what it's for.
I assumed it was for locking tuners which the ST-50 doesn't have!!!
I never tried 'Wilization' though.
No idea but I think that's Bob from Twin Peaks!

Well you're all somewhere close; it's actually a suitor selector. If a young man is of suitable calibre, backbone and fortitude (as determined by the suitor selector) he may then pay court to one of my daughters. If his lip wobbles or he is unable to maintain focus, the test is failed and he must return from whence he came.

A vasculum, a tin can with a door and a strap to go over your shoulder. These were used by botanists to collect plants in the field. Some wet newspaper would keep the plants fresh until you could get them home to ID them. Vascula were usually painted green to put the plants at ease. I inherited about 20 of these when I started teaching, but I gave students the modern equivalent, a plastic garbage bag.
Though they do keep your bottle a bit cooler on a warm day.
Paintings by Hermann Kern, a 19th c Austrian who really, really liked little old men, booze and plants. (Don't we all?
