Lacking the finances to come up with something exotic, I'll just go ahead with this KISS Tribute LoBue replica as used by Mr. Simmons in the 70s.
By coincidence, this is the 5th one of these I've built, so that's what I'm hanging my hat on.

Mahogany body and neck. Ebony fingerboard (I know the original didn't have that). Mudbucker pickup and Hipshot hardware. It'll be black with black speed knobs.

    Here are the previous four:

    And the starter pile:

A five-string LoBue? How do you plan to combat neck dive?

This will be very interesting... :)

Froze to death bandsawing the rough body shape and fingerboard. Attached the template for the routing. Gotta warm up a little more before I go out there again.

You must be making 25" heel boots to accompany it right? 5 integral flame throwers?

I'm not a Gene fan, but I do like this build, looks like its coming together nicely. What's your plan for finish?

Thanks, not a Gene fan either but at least there's a market among tribute bands.

Gonna be black with the white faux binding painted on.

Neck pocket cut. Truss rod wheel access carved. Glue the fingerboard on next.

Almost ready for final sanding and finish (and fret leveling etc.).

It's a sidewinder but a knockoff. As a plus, it has four wire connections so I can split the pickup if I wish.

Love the one in my Epi EB-3. Looking at the ones from Artec if I decide to get a “hot” wound one. (I think) they have a great sound!!!

Your “Gene 5” is looking great so far!!

Thanks. Best sounding one I've found so far was one of Curtis Novak's replacements.
