Also a good call.
What a game!
Great game, Denver - Congrats.
my man # 33 seals the game with his onside kick recovery..... alright..
Good thing Brady has a whole year to recover from the beating he took today. Denver's D was on him like white on rice.
Go Broncos! Let's... not fall apart in the Super Bowl like we did last time.
Wow, great game. You gotta give it up for the Pats, they don't quit. I was roaring when Gronk got behind the safety there. Are you kidding me? And then beating the double-team on the touchdown? Couldn't stop laughing. But OK, go Broncos. I'm pulling for Arizona in the 2nd game, but I'd like to see Peyton win it all again.
I wanted to see Brady/New England win but will now be rooting for Peyton to win the SB.
Also, as far as the 2pt conversion, I would've taken a delay of game and moved it back 5 yds. I know that takes away your run option, but NE doesn't run the ball anyway, you know it was going to be a throw...why not take a 5 yd penalty to give more room for your receivers to work in a less congested area.
One rule I'd like to see changed...
I reckon the kick off should land in the field of play, giving the opposition a chance of a return....
kicking out on the full should give a 50 yd penalty away.....
all Carolina so far..... with some good running plays...
wouldnt they run the clock out? There is some rule under so many minutes a delay
of game runs the clock out or something
but yeah redzone is hard enough having very little room for routes etc
so an extra 5 yards would open it up a bit
its a penalty if the ball lands out of bounds , but kicking it through the endzone
that would be interesting though, having them land it in bounds and not in the endzone...but kickers are lame enough already
Agreed. But they basically changed where they kick from to eliminate kick off returns, due to them being some of the most dangerous plays in the game.
The NFL rose to become the most popular pro sports league in the US by being willing to change the rules to tailor the game to what the fans liked (lots of points, lots of completed passes). Now they will die by that same sword, except the impetus for the rules change is usually safety now.
Don't get me wrong, I like safety - And I like football. But how to have both? I agree with Ditka: if you want to eliminate helmet to helmet hits, eliminate helmets.
The only teams that have looked consistently good to me this year have been Carolina and New England. Now that only one is left, I think I know where my Super Bowl money is - all 100¢ of it.
A few years ago they moved the kickoff up to encourage touchbacks and discourage kick returns because they are so dangerous and are a leading cause of concussions.
Edit: or what Jondanger wrote.
Good point...the 10 second runoff. But that shouldn't apply on a PAT. Once you score you have to be allowed to go for the PAT or 2 pt conversion.
so much for this game being the better one.
the bradys vs the manning was the game to watch
Wow, 3 turnovers in what? 30 seconds of clock?
oh...yeah. Thats why Bellichik is a genius and im just a lowly Giants fan
maybe momentum and all that...keep yer foot on the gas etc;
OK, I get that point....
if they kick it out the back more often than not....then why kickoff?.... just give the other team the ball from the 20 and restart there..
I watched Pats/Denver game, knew Brady got killed, but didn't realize how bad. After game, sports radio guys were saying that Brady got hit 20 times in the game, more than any NFL quarterback all season, and threw away probably 20 passes as he was about to get hit. The injury laden swiss cheese offensive line finally caved, Denver's D was just too good. But heck, NE came pretty close, despite all that. Can't help thinking they should have taken those 2 field goal opportunities they had. But congrats to Denver, they got it done.
