Edited : looked closer at pics its a 2016.

This is in a local shop , 2014 production USA Fender Telecaster. Beautiful, new condition, case etc.

My question is the headstock has a "Special Edition" medallion. Other then having nice wood both in body and neck (but not crazy nice, just above average) , it seems pretty standard so I'm trying to figure out what is "Special" about it. I've done some searching with no real answer.

If you can provide the serial number, you can look it up via Fender and find out.

My guess (without serial) would be it is special due to the rosewood board and the sienna burst color. Likely made for a store chain of some sort.

I'll go look today. You can't see in the pic but the neck has nice figure as does the body. Just can't see in pics.

Perhaps that run of guitars was the only one to have a "Special Edition" badge and that's what's special. Lol. But it's probably the color.

Agree with @backporchmusic - get the serial number and look it up.

It seems like Fender did those medallions on one of their various limited edition series in the mid-2010s; the necks might have been left-overs from the Fender Select days that were already routed on the back for the "Fender Select" medallion, so they cast these "Special Edition" medallions to use up those figured necks.

First get your flux capacitor, then install it in your DeLorean, and just be careful when you hit 88 mph.:D:cool::)

Sorry, couldn't resist. This one was part of Fender's 2016 Limited Edition run they called the "Magnificent 7"; so if you want one you'll have to find one used.

As I posted earlier - I believe these were necks they cut for the Fender Select series but used on this model instead; Fender Selects all had a recessed medallion on the back of the headstock; I suspect these had been milled with the recess for the medallion so they made up 500 of these "Special Edition" medallions for these necks. I don't recall any of the other 2016 "Magnificent 7" models having the medallion on the headstock.

I know, and my meaning is, "who's the shop selling this one so I can call them and buy it?"
