    Hello

First time posting. I bought this lovely looking tele last year, believing it to be an American Standard 2010 edition. It came with a hard case and tags matching the serial number.

I've had no real concerns as it plays lovely (certainly no worse than my flatmates' player edition tele), but a colleague noted the slightly light colouring on the truss plug. So I thought I'd ask some experts on whether the guitar looked to be real or fake.

I've matched it up visually to several images of legit american standard 2010 teles (such as this https://www.tdpri.com/threads/ngd-2010-american-standard.826874/) and can't see any obvious discrepancies. But I'm no expert and I was largely looking for obvious things like the string trees and the bridge.

    Thanks for the help!!

    1. On the serial number, I found a post on this forum explaining that 2009-2010 American Standards followed this six-digits preceded by a "10" convention for a short while.

    2. I also found a fellow poster with a very light truss plug:

Yes, it is a legit 2010 American Standard Tele; I think that color is "candy cola". That was my discussion of the "10xxxxxx" serial numbers in that thread from 2015 that you linked to so I won't repeat the info here. :)

But this one is fine; no problems with the lighter than usual walnut truss rod plug either; some of them just come out that way.

    It's genuine and it's beautiful.

If someone was faking guitars with that quality they'd be losing money.

If you do a search for Fender truss rod plugs, they are sold aftermarket OEM by Fender, two to a pack .. and the typical accompanying photo shows one light and one dark piece of wood, because that's how wood is.

Your friend sounds like sour grapes.

Wow - thanks for the speedy response everyone. That's great to hear.

I'm always wary buying these things second-hand, I doubt the ability of online sellers to legit check even more than my own, and it was a fairly reasonable price.

Needs a visit to a guitar tech but otherwise it plays beautifully.
