Just picked this up last week in near mint condition and had it setup. I like it so much I'm selling two other teles [edit], that are also great. However, this one really hit home with me so I'm making room for it

I always overlooked the Highway Ones because of the finish, but this is an exceptional guitar with a thin neck, small frets, and a big twangy tele sound. I dig it

Sweet! HNGD! You've got the pre upgrade version, they're nice guitars. I have a post upgrade and it's quite a bit different but what I'm jealous of the most is the tint of the neck! I've had mine for almost 6 years and the neck is still pretty white.

Nice Hwy1. I have a 2003 as well, they are great guitars. In addition I recently picked up a honey blonde Hwy1 body I plan to use on a build. Enjoy playing it!

Does anyone know what this neck profile is described as? It's perfect for me and if I'm guitar shopping again, I would like to shop for the same profile. Thanks

I got mine used, so I was not privy to the specs at purchase. I seem to recall posts that it is a C or modern C (on the thin side)

I didn't think the HW1's came with small frets, when did they change to jumbo on that model?

About .84 inches at the first fret. A Modern C pretty much like an American Standard or MIM Standard - a little less finishing of the board edges than on Am. Standards.

2006 was the 'upgrade' to jumbo frets (and 70's logo, and nitro finish).

Actually Mid 2005, about the time of the Summer NAMM show. Yes, from Spaghetti to Black 70s, same time as going from Medium Jumbos to some pretty HUGE stuff.

It is said the pre "Upgrade" bodies were topcoated in a sort of "Furniture Lacquer" that degraded pretty fast in use; many colors changed mid 2005 and the lacquer used is more durable, polishable and more folks would call this new topcoat "nitro" lacquer.

My understanding is that pre upgrade finishes are acrylic lacquer and upgrade finishes are nitrocellulose lacquer. I have no knowledge of the properties of either. But, I can quote Ron Kirn on TDPRI from 2009 : Nitro gets brittle with age.... and Acrylics up that several points...but as for a paint, it's fine.... and as LuvN mentioned, in the golden Era, fender used acrylics, Dupont Lucite, as color coats, the clear coats were Dupont Duco, a Nitrocellulose lacquer... and that was squirted on top of Fullerplast, a catalyst activated primer/sealer.. the precursor to polyurethanes.. So it don't hardly matter much does it?*
