I think it comes down to each individual guitar rather
than a collective "series" - but yes, is the short answer.

I've had 2 American Series from that year and they were very good guitars, i think there is no bad year when referring to those models.

FWIW, I have a 2005 American Series. The neck is a little slimmer and the fretboard feels - at least to me - slightly wider than an American Standard. After a short break-in period to get used to the neck, I really like it. I wasn't crazy about the stock pickups and went to Mares with a 4-way switch. Now it's my number one guitar.

American Series/Standards are usually a safe bet. I've had a 2004,2007 and a 2010. The only one I had a problem with was the 2004 becuase the neck kept going back to a back bow even with the truss rod adjustment. The finish also started to flake and come off itself in 2 spots. Probably was just a bad egg though.

Can't help you with the 2000 but I can with a 2001. Purchased it at Guitar Center brand new. Hot Rod Red. Great guitar! I still have it and plan to never let it go. Have not had a single problem with it.

Depending on condition $550-$650 I try to stay in those bounds. Also depends on how patient you are ,but I have seen rare finishes go for $700.

Is "natural" w/ a white p/g and rw neck a rare finish? Yes I'm really asking. I have no clue about what were the common colors of these guitars.

I played 1999 for a while, a dark Turquoise with rosewood board. That was a transitional year with lots of cool new features. It was a special one of the lot. That was one sweet guitar. I went to the guitar store every day after work just to play that Telecaster. I'm not big on modern hardware, but that beauty was perfect.

So I think 99 is a particularly great year for American Standards. Of the approximately five that I played, they were excellent. Also, besides a crimson 1997 American Deluxe, I've not played any American series that I like as much as those 99's.

Sorry to go off topic, but while at my local little shop yesterday, they had a brand new red American Standard on the wall. I picked it up and played it for a bit. It was absolutely a fantastic Telecaster, and only about 7lb's. This is kind of a big deal for me as I usually only buy vintage reissue stuff. If I were not currently impoverished, I would be lining up to buy a 1999, or a current run American Standard.

Natural with rosewood boards are still available so I would say it's not rare. I would say things like the lake placid blue, chrome red and the aqua marine metallic colors on the American Standard line are what I would call on the rarer side since they aren't offered anymore.

I'd totally go for one in LPB. No brainer.

My #1 is a 2000 MIA Strat, best strat I've ever played or owned, even compared to my FCS guitars, hence her name - "Sofa king" or "Sophi" :)
