Title should read: rehoming a chassis...

I'm bored and stuck at home - so started poking around the yard and found some tree stakes that looked like they could be converted into something interesting.

So I ripped them, glued them, squared em up and have a new home for my little ac4tv8 chassis. Now thinking about what speaker(s) to put in there. I can fit a single 10, 12, or dual 8s. Running two 8s has perked my interest.. just to try something unusual.

Cab is 5/8" mix of fir, cedar, and redwood with internal blocks in the corners. Inside will get a 2 part epoxy coat. Outside will be spar varnish, baffle out of marine ply (okume). I've built boats this way and have the materials on hand.

I don't gig, I occasionally pick around with my friends, and the amp will rarely leave the basement. My other amps are a mooded BJ, and an SCX2.

Any thoughts, recommendations, etc are appreciated.

Here's a mockup of a 2x8 configuration. Note I'm rotating the chassis 90 degrees from its old cab so I'll have controls on the front.

I haven’t tried a 2x8, but I love my 2x10s. I prefer them stacked vertically but I doubt that will work in your situation.

I’ve been contemplating getting my Epi Valve Jr redone as a 2x8 for a while now, so that gets my vote!

    Thx.

I'm looking at a c8r and p8r (one ceramic / one alnico) from Jensen. Will update the thread when I get further along.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's a DEEP cabinet. The amp's shortcoming is the cabinet.

Its 12" deep. I haven't decided whether to leave open, or run closed(?).
