Looks nice. I also have never seen a blonde one (in fact I've only seen one of these in person, and it was the candy apple red). If you're considering buying it try to get the serial number from the GC and run it through Fender's online lookup and see what comes back.

What a beautiful guitar.

It's a good price, too.

I thought they just made them in solid colors

I do like how they did that blond with the kind of burst/64/58 look

I had a CAR JB Std a couple of years ago. It was nice, but I couldn't gel with it. I removed the neck and installed a neck with a rosewood fretboard and it came alive. Honestly, CS Texas Specials love alder bodies and rosewood fretboards. If I still lived in Cincy, I would make my way to GC (if they're even open) and play it.

I had a blonde one and wish I still did! It was a great guitar and I don't remember why I sold it but, that's not unusual with me. I've had so many good guitars and sold most of them.

That one seems to be right and I think I can see the signature on the front of the headstock. The price is right, unless it's beaten up too much.

In '96-'97 they were made in various colors including a light blonde. The clear coat tends to darken a bit, over time. Those years had a multi-piece poplar body and the blondes and sunbursts had an ash veneer for some nice grain you could see.

The neck is a medium U profile and the main feature of the guitar. The bridge isn't universally loved.

My '97, waiting for reassembly as an Esquire with a Cavalier Hydra tapped pickup.

Regarding the MIM James Burton Standard, I wish they were still in production. If they were, I would like to see the following changes to them:

  1. Pickups changed to CS Nocasters
  2. Pickguard changed to 8-hole 1-ply eggshell, but with no adjustment holes for pickup
  3. 3-saddle ferrous ashtray bridge w/brass saddles
Was the original Candy Apple Red or another finish like Dakota Red or something?

I have one in CAR. wonderful guitar. love the neck. I have seen examples in CAR and in blonde; but I don't know if there were other colors available.

comes with vintage size frets, which I like - and I like the Texas specials just fine, but hey, pickups can be changed. I could put a 4-way switch in there as well, just haven't gotten around to it.

I would agree that the most egregious choice was the 6-saddle rattle hammer stuff. I put a 3 brass saddle straight away; bought it used from a guy in Maine whose brother had owned the guitar, but passed away. So yeah, dead guy's guitar.

been my favorite for sometime now; mine was made in 2000 or 2001 I think. it's been awhile since I checked.

Fortunately,I haven´t had any problems with those six-piece hammer bridges.I have two JB standards. One blondeburst and one sunburst. Both are stock, and beautiful-looking guitars IMO.

May have to do with your playing technique. Some guys will need a full time tech, so the guitar can be triaged mid show.

But I'm looking at your "Handle" and wondering if the pieces have all rusted into a unified whole. :^)

I had the chance to play a blonde Burton Standard at a rehearsal room about 17 years ago. A guy from another band had it and I got to noodle around for a few minutes on it unplugged. It seemed like a cool guitar. Loved the feel of the neck; very much like the Burton USA Red Paisley Flames I got 13 years later.

That blonde does not look like other MIM factory blondes I have seen. It looks really cool though.

Individual necks vary according to how they are finish sanded, but having had my hands on both it seemed that the MIA and MIM JB necks have the same profile and dimensions.

Back in the mid-1990s, Fender had the Tex-Mex series in the California series. There were some bodies from those series that had that same finish.

I have a red one and really like. I remember reading a James Burton interview and he mentioned
having a lot of input on the design of both the standard and custom models.
