Hello, last year I had a "guitar tech " do some work on my '88 , hadn't had any work ever done on it . He took the guitar for a long time , set it up and sent out the bridge pup to a well known pickup guy for a rewind , since it was weak from age. I met him and gave me the guitar back, work supposedly completed ..The guitar was always quiet as a mouse before i gave it to him. When i plugged it in it had obvious ground buzz especially in the bridge position. I told him about and it was never remedied ..The pick up sounded a lot stronger , but the buzz was annoying. Any ideas except to take the guitar apart and shield all the cavities , which is a lot of work since I never had any issues in 30 years before I had the work done ? I'm not going to bring back the guitar to the guy again.

Weak from age?

My US teles ONE year newer than yours, the bridge pickup sounds better than the new stuffs, hanging on the wall in the shops.

Talk to the winder. Sheliding the bridge cavity seems drastic if it was perfect before. Did it get hotter magnets and more wire?
Bullocks, noticed the quotes around tech. Sorry to hear that

Yes it did get weaker as time went on, maybe the windings wore out. i should contact Kent Armstrong, i believe he rewound it.

Seems more of a grounding issue. Best to check if the plate on the bridge pickup is grounded and also the
bridge saddle plate. Sometimes you can just use a jumper wire between the metal surfaces to get a quick
idea. One example would be touch the pickup height screw and opposite end to the bridge (saddle) plate.

There's nothing there to wear out. The windings are stationary and do nothing but sit there. Wear implies movement and friction and there isnt any of that in a pickup. Its all but impossible for them to be worn out.

I personally wouldn't have let them touch the pickup without being 100 percent certain something was actually wrong with it.

I had already stated the problem pickup was rewound 2 years ago..and yes, it did get weaker with age..

Under very bad conditions the mags in a pickup can get degaussed and some strings sound muted or dull. That is very easy to detect with a gaussmeter and can be easily recharged.
Windings can break, then they either stop working or have a only conductive connections with a brittle and thin sound. But they never wear out.
