While hitting pawnshops during one of my out of town business trips, I ran into this 40 yr. old veteran.

It was hidden on the wall behind some other instruments.

I picked it up, looked at the price, and inspected the whole instrument.

I asked for a chord and an amp to audition it.

I then too it up to the counted and asked for a cash price.

After a little haggling, I was taking home the bass for the price of a new Squier Classic Vibe 70's P-Bass.

This bass has been played and has the scars to prove it. They might not all show up in the pics, but in person there
are chips, dents, and scratches all over it. This bass was definitely not a case queen.

    Here's some pics:

Wow. So Fender did not always used string through body for their basses. I did not know that.
That's has an almost perfect weathered relic look. Congrats

Thanks BF. It really does have a very cool look.

I can't wait to get it set up properly and get some new strings on it.

    Looking forward to thumping away.

    OMG- He shoots....He Scores!!!!
    Love cruising pawnshops-
That is one sweet hunk of wood!
The chrome bridge cover is outstanding- and the maple fretboard ties in with that natural body perfectly-
Great score- with that price you can keep cruising pawnshops for more

looks like already has flats on it- it would look killer with black tapewounds on it...hmmm.

I haven't played bass since my college days but one that might be enough to get me to start again. Good find. Enjoy!

    Thanks Larmo.

Why do you think it was a Sunburst originally?

The poly coating seems to be original on this bass.

Very nice. I have a 73, and it is the best electric bass I’ve ever played.

    Thanks HD.

I really wish I knew the history of the guitars and basses I've picked up over the years.

Just to be able to interview the players who owned these instruments, and hear of all the gigs they played over the years with them.
