1972 Fender USA Standard Strat - A good buy?
Ok as promised, here are the pics of the "original" 72 Strat. I was not interested at all as I hate the 70's thin nut (my first electric was a '77 Strat).
The seller also wants slightly more than the Tele so about US$2300
The finish looks amazingly good if in fact original.
There's no serial stamped at the neck plate which makes it a mid to late 70's plate (the serial number was under the logo at headstock late 70's). Also I believe Fender introduced those all black plastics mid 70's... Too clean, too shiny...
My thoughts exactly
Looks to me like they were both refinished by the same guy.
A serial number should be stamped on the F plate. Very suspicious with this guy having two questionable guitars.
The black plastic-ware (pickguard, pickup covers and knobs) wasn't offered until the 1975 models, and there should be a serial number stamped on the neck plate (again). It's also been refinished, as the original finishes weren't that shiny or "deep".
I've had more than one black 70's Strat. This guy is trying to sell you partscasters.
