The notch disappeared totally in 73/74 because Fender changed to automated pin routers that couldn't cut the pre-74 bout shape. You can also see the Mickey Mouse ears of the neck heel and small semicircle for truss rod - they couldn't cut square pockets.

I think he was referring to the Tele I am interested in and not your 71 ;) Yours is simply perfect, @PJ55

My 1976 Tele (i) has different coloring under the pickguard; (ii) no notch; (iii) black gasket under the neck plate; (iv) no Mickey Mouse ears at the edge of the route, at least I don't think so--I taped the neck pickup down because it was rattling around ages ago but even with the obfuscation it really looks to be routed straight save for the truss channel, which also looks to be cut differently from yours.

OK back to the OP. I was wondering if someone more knowledgeable was going to say something about the numbers on the neck. My 1971 Stratocaster has the sixties style neck stamp still but OP's one from what little can be made out has stamp more like my 1976 in terms of its greenish color at leat.

Photo is my 1971 Strat; I don't have that angle photo on file for me Tele unfortunately.

Well, I think the greenish neck stamp could be legit, check out this 71 stamp.

When I sum up all the helpful posts it comes down to probably a 71/72/73 Tele that might have had a refinish... right? What confuses me is the electric, as I have not seen the 66 pots being used until 73 and the pickup is a 1970, but I know that one was once replaced with a Seymour Duncan, so that could be a replacement from 1970 as well...

btw, I found a picture of a neck pocket of a pretty clean 71 Tele on Reverb and the notch looks quite similar to mine or am I wrong?

I think you’re right. I hesitate to jump into these threads, between adding more information, or just muddling things up.

Aside from the originality and heritage concerns, It is a nice looking guitar.

Take a look at the body edges radius: yours are almost 60s rectangular/small radius whereas the Reverb reference show the typical 70s "rounder" edges.
