    Hey Tele friends,

    First of all Merry Christmas!
I have a question for you guys.

I got offered a 1968 Fender Telecaster, he already send me some pics & info.
He told me it is all original, only the tone pot is replaced.
Sunday I'll visit the guy (and his tele) but I hope you can confirm everything looks legit.
Are the neck pocket markings ok?
    Thnx!

I am not an expert, but I do have a 1968 Telecaster. What I see in the pictures looks very close to what I have.

Are the heel markings on yours as clear as those? To my amateur eye everything else looks spot on, but those marks are almost suspiciously clear. I guess could be that the previous owner(s) didn't fool with the truss rod much, but man those looks almost new enough to seem fake to me.

I haven't seen my neck heel markings for many years, but I recall they were in pretty good shape. I saw the markings on my '69 Strat a while ago and they were quite clear. Many old guitars have never had the neck removed for any reason. I know that there are many owners like me. I have never adjusted the truss rod on any of my older Fenders ('67 Mustang,'68 Tele, '69 Strat, '70 Precision)

Actually I am curious about the body on this one. It looks like a fade3d Olympic White finish (same as my Tele and Strat), but the barer wood in the neck pocket looks like ash, not alder. And I'm not sure from the pictures, but it looks like the grain may be showing through the finish, and none of mine show that.

Should there be a stamp or a name in the neck pocket? Or are the black 3B and red 8 ok?

The paint looks fine to me as do the stamps. I can't see anything that rings bells about that.

Don’t most later 60s have smooth steel saddles ?
Those look like the older style with the threads, did they use both or even use the threaded saddles that late?

And is that neck finished in lacquer or a thin poly? I know they stopped using nitro sometime in 68

It all looks legit to me I just don’t have enough knowledge regarding the saddles they used

Yeah. Looks good, like my 68.

The finish does look like faded blonde ash rather than Olympic white. I’m not an expert either, but I love my 68 tele more than anything.

It looks authentic to me. I believe '68 was the first year of the thick poly finish instead of nitro and I can't tell if it has the f-style tuners or not, but everything looks good except maybe the markings. I don't recognize those markings in the neck pocket and I agree with others that the date on the neck heal seems awefully pristine for a stamping more than 50 years old.

Looking at it closely, you can indeed see grain through that finish, and as the 60s went on the topcoat went to poly and it seems went more opaque.

Having been caught out before I'd say this is indeed a Blond 501 finish on ash.

I like this guitar. From here it looks to be nitro on ash for the body and nitro once neck. The accumulated dirt and grime look 50 years old..as does the oxidation on the saddles. Case??

My 69 has threaded saddles and...they are original.
