I found this thread while trying to search info on Smugglers teles. Very interesting and informative thread. I saw the earlier post that you only had 3 Smuggler’s on your list. With as extensive an effort as you seem to have put into this, is it possible they are that rare or is it possible some of the other guitars on the list are Smuggler’s also and you just don’t have that information?

Most of the guitars on the list were for sale at the time I found them on-line, so I'm sure that if they were smuggler's the seller would have noted this in the ad. I suppose that it is possible that the seller didn't know and that one or two might have slipped by, but it is unlikely based on the value of these guitars now. Most people, like me for example, would not buy a guitar of this vintage without extensive documentation such as pot and pickup date codes, neck stamp dates, etc. I currently have 140 1967's on the list with 5 smugglers.

I don’t know if this one is legit or not, if so it may also be one for the list.

Thanks for sharing this one with me. I have actually seen that guitar in prior searches. Problem is that the data is only accurate/useful if I can verify the guitar by neck stamp date or neck plate numbers (less reliable) or preferably both (sometimes other date codes and indicators as well). There are lots of 1967's out there, even ones for sale, that don't show or tell these numbers and therefore are not included in my data.

Finally finished restoring a '67 and boy the neck is something special on these maple caps. Neck is May of 67, serial is 187224. I think she's been about 4 different colors, but I've got her back to what I believe to be her original blonde. Awesome flame neck and she's only 6lbs 5oz

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful example! Yours is #142 on the list, and it fits in perfectly in the production sequence as I have two other serial numbers starting with 187XXX and they were both made in May of 67 according to their neck stamp dates.

Up to 154 1967's in my data base now, but always looking for additional examples if anyone has one to share.

I assumed that was part of the route for the bridge pickup, which is sometimes just barely visible on some guitars. Having said that, this one is quite visible.

Check out the photo in post #64. It has the same route.

The wiring looks to be woven cotton covered, any images of the date & manufacturing code for both pots?

Hi - not sure if you're still collecting this info, but I just bought 203740 in near mint unplayed condition. Its so clean that the colour under the guard is no different from the rest.

July 67 neck date, maple cap board, cloth wiring, blonde nitro finish, transition logo, Klusons, threaded saddles. "modern' circuit - not sure if that is factory or not. Lightweight 7.5lbs - not smuggler route.

Your database was really helpful when I was researching the purchase so I'm repaying the debt if you're still monitoring this thread!!!

Hi - is this post/database still active? I just bought 206111 - a "smuggler". It will be a while before I get my hands on it and and can give more information, but please let me know if interested.
