Made in 1960, just like me! It must be a weiner...I mean a winner! Thank God it's not orange sparkle or I'd be looking to sell a kidney right now to finance it. I've walked away from gold sparkles and never envisioned myself shopping for a purple Tele, but I gotta say that I really like the looks of this one, maybe cuz it's just so unique.

I can't find the original TDPRI thread, but when this was previously listed on eBay the concensus here, and elsewhere, was that it is not legit IIRC. I believe that was largely based on the goofy neck pocket markings.

    That's funny...

Scroll down to the Comments & Questions:

A: No. I am not the godzilla guy."

With that aside, it's interesting that someone would feel the need to heat a screwdriver tip and impress burned markings into the neck cavity, original or not.

When it was previously on eBay the seller claimed that this was custom made for Buck Owens. "MFP BO" meaning metal flake purple Buck Owens.

Personally, I don't believe that Fender would have made those marks in the neck pocket, and find those marks to be discrediting. YMMV.

No visible nail holes on the top or in the routs (at least in these pics) AND no paint shadow in the neck pocket? Hmm.

It doesn't appear to have faded in the last 48 years - the colour under the scratchplate is exactly the same colour as the rest of the finish.

The seller says "In the Fender Telecaster book by A. R. Duchoissoir you will discover a color photo of a Telecaster in this exact finish." which seems odd considering that it's supposed to be a custom finish for an individual player. Does anyone have a copy of the book to hand?

The one in the Duchoissoir book is a '63 (p. 39 in my copy)
