I am having a 5 watt 5f1 built and need some 12” speaker recommendations.

I am partial but not limited to Weber.

The only mod to the amp is I am having a passive tone control added.

The guitars I will run through are Les Paul with HBs and P-90s, Telecaster and Strat. I am not a hard rock player so extra high gain stuff would never get played. 99% blues and of that most is 50's and 60's genre. Both rhythm and lead. Some modern but not gained out stuff.

Minimal pedals. Analogman King of Tone, Analogman Beano Boost or Analogman Bad Bob Boost (depending on the guitar) and a Strymon Flint for trem and reverb. Sometimes a delay for slapback.

    Thanks!!

A lot of threads ask about speaker advice for tweed amps. Usually it’s the 5E3, but tweed amps in general seem to generate “which speaker” threads.

I’m a tweed fan, and have been since the early 1970s. I think tweeds amps, including the 5F1, sound really good through any decent, or even halfway decent speaker. I don’t believe there’s any reason to anguish, spend time and money on multiple speaker swaps, etc.

If you’re partial to Weber, it may be wise to go with a Weber you already like.

I’ve tried my 1960 Champ through lots of cabs and lots of speakers over the years (including some that had impedance mismatches), and have liked all of them. It’s a great, classic circuit, and it would be tough to make one sound bad.

If you're going with a 12" alnico, I'd get a Tweed Deluxe Speed Shop A12Q, which is a Weber-constructed speaker to the specs of (and with materials provided by) Ron Damiani. If ceramic, I'd go with one of the many fantastic offerings from Eminence.

    Thanks for the reply.

There are almost too many choices now - tons of good speakers to choose from.

I decided to go with the Weber 12A125-A 30 watt. I recently installed one in my Tweed Deluxe and it is a great sounding speaker.

I'll put in a vote for the Weber 12A125A. I used it recently in a 5F1 Micro build and couldn't be happier.

Great choice! That’s one of the best loved speakers in all of tweedom!

I like this sentiment, my only thought would be not to go with a speaker that is very dark
