Hi, new here. I have a USA made 2006 Highway 1 Tele. I noticed that the bridge pickup has white string instead of tape wound around the outside of the coil. Any ideas what Fender was trying to accomplish by doing this?

Hi and welcome. Most of the later 50s and 60s bridge pickups had light pale or white string. I don’t know why.

Probably just aesthetics. String and/or tape has no effect on the guitars sound.

Likely Leo Fender just got a better deal on pale string. ;)

GFS makes 50's and 60's style pickups that have the string around them also, so apparently this was a "thing" back then.
