Had one of those moments today that made me stop and think.

Picked up lunch a while ago and the total came to $7.89. I paid $7.90. Now although I was not expecting the penny back and really didn't want it, I found it odd that it was never offered to me.

Again it's only a penny, but do you think it should have been AT LEAST offered?

totally, i'd be outraged and demand my financial re-compensation

(except that i never carry cash, exceptions to that being yard sales, the VFW, and catholic school lenten fish fry fundraisers, although those good folk are often taking plastic now, too)

They did you a favor. Get rid of pennies, they cost more to make. Get rid of $100 bills and you'll decimate the drug trade.

Certainly! Was the cashier a young adult? Probably didn’t think twice as most young folks don’t carry cash let alone coins!

Up here in Canadia, we haven't had pennies for 7 years now. All cash transactions are rounded up or down. In the U.S. who is profiting off of Penny production? What reason is there to keep minting them?

I think people are beyond worrying about pennies at this point. I'm highly in favor of doing away with them entirely. No more $1.99 sales. It's either $1.95 or 2 bucks.
Now, get rid of paper dollars too. WTF? who wants a wallet full of dirty grimy bucks? $1 coin please.

The places I go to all don't want customers to pay with cash -- concerns about 'rona, don't you know?

If you were buying a Porsche for $89,999.99 and gave them $90K and they stiffed you the penny would it seem as important?

Trick question. The answer is no, you would have financed the full amount.

I don't know about a bunch of heavy coins, but it wouldn't bug me at all to just have the dollar bill be the lowest currency. Round everything up to the nearest dollar. One side effect is it might force more people to decide if that 12 pack and that carton of cigarettes is really more important than giving the kids nutritious food.

But I agree, never mind the supposed psychology of marketing, I've never seen the point of having something be $1.99. For the love of money just call it frikkin $2 dollars. Geeeeezzzz..... enough with the mind games.
