Here it is, got it from the shop literally 20 mins ago. That's a great rythm guitar with very nice sounding PAF style humbuckers.

So, it’s actually from 1966? That’s a great idea to get a ‘60s guitar that’s been refinished and modded already, so you don’t have to worry about keeping it pristine. Can I ask how much guitars like this go for?

It is actually from 66, yeah. I got a 64 Mustang a number of years ago and it’s a lovely guitar, but it’s all original and from pre-cbs fender. That one is certainly still player grade, but I still feel like it’s a museum piece to me. I’ve done basic set up work on it but I’d feel to nervous to ever mod it or really bring it out and about a lot. It (the 64) also has the A width nut, 1 1/2” wide. I get used to it when im playing but it’s a touch too narrow for me to fully feel like it could be a #1 player for me.

So, yeah, I had a checklist in mind. Wanted something from the 60’s, as close to pre-cbs as I could get, that had already been tinkered with and had the B width neck. Found this one on Reverb and it checked almost every box for me. I changed a whole bunch of stuff on it right off the bat, simplifying the switching circuit and hardtailing the bridge for example. The only disappointing part was that the bridge pickup seems to need rewinding, since it was very weak and tinny sounding compared to the neck pickup. You can clearly tell it needs some love. But, I had a Seymour Duncan JB Jr kicking around that fit in there and takes care of the 60hz issue when selected alone, so a perfect solution. I’ll get the 66 bridge pickup fixed up one of these days, but for now, this thing rips! Super light weight and resonant too, just a joy to play and I’m not scared to mess with it or gig it.

Like most things, the vintage guitar prices seem to continue to go up and up. Most of the stuff I was finding was simply out of my price range. Actually, this one was listed just outside of what I wanted to pay, but the seller sent me an offer and we worked it out to a (I think) reasonable price. It was around $1900 usd if I remember correctly, little higher with shipping and tax but definitely under 2k. Expensive for sure, but reasonable considering some of the other listings that were out there. I traded in a bunch of gear, made a sound proposal to the wife, and made it work. Very happy I did!

That seems so reasonable for something like that. I was thinking it was going to be like $8-12k

Yeah not that bad, in context of course. Mustangs seem to be less desirable and therefore cheaper, that’s how I ended up picking that model for the first vintage one I got. Luckily I found I really like the body shape and the short scale doesn’t bother me at all. Love to have a Jag or recently I’ve been dying to get a Les Paul junior… but those cost more like the higher numbers you mentioned.

Seems as though I have a problem paying over 2k for any model. Just seems to be the highest I’m comfortable paying, even if I could technically afford more I’d just feel too scared by it lol. Like Rolexes or something; never understood how people could walk around with $20k on their wrist on not be constantly freaking out haha

Jan. 5, 2021…a ‘08 Gibson SG Classic! The neck profile is surprisingly chunky (almost a little too much). I switched out the wiring harness because it went to maximum volume at “4” and nothing beyond that (I bought it knowing that). It’s a rocker and upper fret access is great for my crappy attempts playing slide. I was always anti-SG but this has reformed me and I think it’s a keeper!

Here it is with my ‘98 SJ-200. I’m ready to recreate “Tommy” or “Live at Leeds” (if I only still had my HiWatt DR504 head!).

Bought this PRS wood library McCarty 594 soapbar in Feb 22. After I bought this I said no more NGD unless I sell something else and I’ve stuck to it. Superb guitar with lightly flamed mahogany neck ( yeah flamed mahogany) and Brazilian rosewood finger board. Just a swell axe!

Kiesel Delos got it just over 2 weeks ago. The absolute best Strat at any price from any manufacturer I have ever had my hands on. Nukes any Suhr, Anderson or CS Fender I have ever played badly. Was speced like a Suhr Standard S with a 22 fret neck, Ghoto 510 trem, Swamp Ash Body, Med Jumbo SS frets , pair of the Marks Singles and a Beryllium bridge. Just a killer and was very surprised at how responsive and alive this guitar is. Will share the stand on stage at times with my 1994 US Chicago Custom Washburn Silverado Strat.

My last one, a few months ago was this Fano, made by Wes Mclave. Lollar Wide range humbuckers, 7.25-9.5 compound radius, 6.9lbs.

I love it, it's a breeze to play all over the neck, super light, and sounds great.

Very lightly used 2016 LP Traditional w/57 Classics.
Decent weight, nice top with the stock pickups I was wanting.
First LP since the last one (LP Special RI) I'd sold in 1985.
Picked this up from Dave's back in February.
Only thing I may swap is the speed knobs to vintage style and the jury's still out on that one.....

Black Epiphone SG Special, a closet queen from my daughter's boyfriend. Someone tried to lower the action by deepening the G-B-E string slots on the nut and a bad switch. It was an easy repair and now almost my go-to for 'bucker sounds. Full disclosure: obviously a marketing pic, seen one, seen 'em all...
