G maj/E min. D minor also works nicely but it doesn't work with its relative major.
You can play over it in any of these and it would work...
Try using using 12 gauge strings, adjust your pickups high, adjust your amp settings.

Unless it's digital the pedal will be fine. Starving your digital pedals for amperage could wreck them.

It definitely is expansion. So it would be any sort of amplification like an overdrive pedal.
