Hey musicman,
I wouldn't change anything. I've used each of these combinations in different situations, and each has become useful in one way or another. Works for me.
If I had to pick something, I would probably not split the neck pickup. The stack already has vintage output, so splitting...
As ignorant as it makes me sound, I had no idea the truss rod was bent like that. I always thought that the nut compressing the wood on the backside of the neck was counteracting the string tension, but it looks more like the straightening of the rod provides a backward bend. Makes me wonder...
Wiring the series config in Position 3 makes more sense to me too. That's the way I did it. Looking at your diagram, it looks like all you have to do is swap the wires on lugs 3 and lugs 4. So move the purple wire to B3 and N3, and move the ground wire from N3 to N4. I tried to mark it up below.
I used an EP1111 for a Tele project. Not for the exact purpose you are looking to do, but thought I'd give it a shot. This is what I came up with that I think accomplishes what you want. I don't think you need the other side, so a DPDT On-On-On would work instead of an EP1111. But the EP1111 has...
I've been seeing a lot of discounts on Blackstar Club 40 combos and sometimes the Stage 60 combo. Even the 6L6 model and other variations that used to be a premium are being discounted. Is there a new amp line or MK III coming out, or maybe just a way to counter slowing sales?
I wish I knew how to measure impedance to test that theory.
If it means anything, I did measure the following DCRs on that vintage stack neck:
Regular wiring = 15.3k
Split to the top coil = 7.9k (audibly louder than regular wiring)
Powerboost = 15.3k (audibly louder than split wiring)
These...
Story of my life :). I know there's bigger problems than being left handed, but walking into a fully-stocked GC and only seeing 2 guitars you can play sucks.
Believe it or not, this is Basswood. I know not ideal and some say prone to blotching, but the Fretwire kit I bought only had basswood...
An update to my wiring choices, I finally put this all together in my first build. The body and neck finishes (and life in general) took a lot of time. I wired it pretty close to what is in my initial post of this thread. All positions seem to work as expected. I found some positions to be...
Yeah, it's tough to work with. I've been trying some test samples and seemed to have evened out the blotchiness with wood conditioner. I'm about to do that this week, so I'll let you folks know how it goes.
S-1. Interesting. I see it on Fenders all the time, but I never looked into how that switch works. I will try my hand at drawing something up as well. Yes, those are my seven wish list items. FYI, the B south was just to make it hum cancelling with the neck north magnets, but Seymour...
I think splitting the neck stack would still make sense in the combo pickup positions where the bridge is also split, wouldn't it (Toggle centered/Positions 2 and 3)? This would retain noise canceling as long as I split the bridge to the south coil (noting that the neck is north), and I make...
This looks right to me! I think my wiring diagram for the neck boost might still work but is less logical than what you posted here. I'll have to look at that again. What a community!! I'm learning so much!
I just got a reply from Seymour Duncan (shout out to Jeff). They are very helpful and responsive. Didn't expect to see anything from them so quickly.
Anyway, he said that the Vintage Stack Rhythm is north-to-strings and they confirmed that it is the white/black pair that is associated with...
That looks so clean and natural. Great work.
Thanks, all, for the warm welcome. Looking forward to awesome discussions and content (and catching up on the old, but still informative threads).
Wow, moosie, what great info. You just quadrupled my knowledge of stacked humbuckers. Thanks for this.
I've got to digest everything that you've posted here, but it's obvious that I'll probably have to contact SD to verify I'm not screwing around with their pickups too much. All the wiring...
See attached. This is from the wiring instructions for Vintage Rhythm Stack (STK-T1n), Hot Lead Stack (STKT2b), and Vintage Lead Stack (STK-T3b). I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put entire PDFs of SD's instructions in the post, so a screenshot hopefully suffices. It shows this powerboost...
Gris: nice looking guitar! I'll consider the initial black stain method. It looks like it paid off for you.
Fenderdad1950: Thanks! I think the wood I have is not ideal. The kit that I bought uses Basswood. Not to say I can't stain it, but it certainly doesn't have as drastic a grain pattern...
New to TDPRI. My Tele build kit got me doing much research on wiring, finishing, and all sorts of guitar building topics. I've landed on this site almost daily, so I figured I'd join the community. I'm still debating the finish of my build but at a minimum I want to go with some exposed wood...
Hi all, I have a project that started simple, but grew a lot more complicated from there. Looking to install a humbucker in the bridge and a stack humbucker in the neck (Little 59/Vintage stack). Seymour Duncan sample wiring for that actually showed options for split wiring for the bridge...
