I dislike haggling but in some cultures it expected and enjoyed. I was taught to haggle by an Indian hotel owner when I first moved to Fiji, he told me I would get on much better if I haggled but also that I would never really win. I did a haggle in India that went over two days every time I...
got a gig tonight, I’m using an amp I last gigged with over 30 years ago, its a solid state but it is lighter than my Fender amps which I really struggle with getting in and out of my car.
I have an old solid state amp I got 40 years ago, it has been backup for many years but with age my valve amps get heavier everyday but it doesn’t have reverb, I just got a reverb pedal and it has transformed the amp, we have a couple of gigs in January so it will be getting an outing, never...
New Zealand and Australia both went ISO Metric in the 70’s, it was good for me as our union negotiated a deal where any new tools we had to buy for our job that was metric the company would pay half. Most of us got things like 300mm adjustable wrenches, 450mm pipe wrenches. With things like...
New Boss CS-3 compressor arrived, sounds like the old one, gotta be happy with that, got the quote on the amp, $360, cripes and he hasn’t got the second amp yet, but the good news is the reverb tank was fine but the transformer for the reverb had died, that is the second time, last time was over...
Getting ready for an outdoor gig, plugged my amp in, nothing, got out the backup, no reverb so decided to swap reverb tanks as the other amp’s tank was working, again nothing so it is further up the signal chain but the amp is fine otherwise. Then my compressor dies, as it is 40 years old I have...
back in the 60’s to 80’s we played a lot of weddings, it was predictable, they’d trot out the grandparents and put them right up front next to the band so they wouldn’t miss anything, then the complaints would start.
I had a red burst on a guitar about 60 years ago, it went from black on the sides to a deep red in the middle, the sprayer really nailed it, The same model (Jansen NZ) had a period of really good bursts for a while then they suddenly went to very different finishes so I suspect the guy who was...
got it back from the auto spray, this is a Mazda colour, saw a car and liked the colour so asked the owner and we had a look at the manufacturers plate and got the paint number.
sorted it, I have no idea how, I resoldered all the joints, but it was the switch that was causing the problem, I replaced it and the problem eventually ceased, the schematic switch was wired differently so I just kept trying different lugs till it all worked.
Wired it up as per the diagram from Seymour Duncan and exactly the same again. The claw solder was excellent. I did find out that the leads from the pickup pass current between the ground and hot lead, is this normal? I assume it is otherwise there would be no circuit. I have ordered new CT pots...
Thanks guys, I have removed all the wiring, cleaned the backs of the pots and have started wiring all over. The solder on the claw will get done again as well.
I have just run the multimeter over the pots, there are 3 pots with 3 lugs each and everything connects to everything else, all lugs to ground and to each other so with my limited knowledge of electronics I suspect there is a dead short some where. I am thinking to disconnect every wire and then...
