Burn marks are frustrating. My ROSS helps there. Finishing is the hardest part and is likely what your work will be judged on at first glance....

I've used a regular old router with a pattern following bit with no issues.
I'm thinking no...nothing wrong with a contrasting neck and body IMHO.
