Have you tried plaid? Superb sound for early Rod Stewart / Faces type stuff.

With respect, why the heck don't you just try and change it and see if it fits for yourself?
Just yesterday I tweaked the truss on my 1987 (ish.. can't remember..) MIJ Telecaster. Just one 90 degree turn made a huge difference.
