    Strange but true

Pete Townshend is mostly associated with SG Specials and Les Pauls during the late 60s and 70s. But nearly all of the guitar work on Who's Next and Quadrophenia were recorded using a 1959 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins through a Fender Bandmaster (gifts from Joe Walsh). He almost never played the...

And I'll add: ensure the router switch is in the off position before you plug in the power cord. 😳

First Thinline Build - RB influenced

Nice job!! For your next RB-inspired build perhaps, here's one I did where I omitted the German carve from the area between the horns. Doing it this way, I was able to avoid any conflict between the carve and neck pocket. This is sonic blue over olympic white, and I masked the edges to create...

Different spin on a rosewood Tele

Thanks for the kind words! LOL A bunch! Those are all previous builds. Been doing this for awhile... :)

Different spin on a rosewood Tele

Finally finished one that I started last winter... This was a practice build of sorts as I wanted to perfect my methods for both binding and working with veneer. More on that in a future thread... This is a chambered alder body that I covered with rosewood veneer. The top and back were done...

    Tauro woodworks?

I bought two chambered bodies from him last winter. Both were excellent and he nailed my requested specifications. I also have one incoming from him that is at about three of the four weeks that was given as the lead time. So I'm not concerned at present and I expect that he'll deliver as promised.

Tips on "clamshell" chambered body construction?

Thanks! Very happy with the tone, the versatility (especially with the blender) and the playability.

Tips on "clamshell" chambered body construction?

Second chambered Jazzmaster is finished! This one's the "negative" of the walnut Jazzblaster above... Blonde wood with a brunette sandwich layer! Chambered Monterey pine with a center layer of Ohio black walnut. The finished guitar weighed in at 6 lbs 8 ounces! "Stratomaster" configuration with...

Tips on "clamshell" chambered body construction?

And the first one is finished! Turned out pretty good too... Compare to the boat anchor rosewood Jazzmaster in my original post! This one weighed in at exactly 8 pounds. The process was relatively straightforward... After re-sawing (thanks Brian!), I glued up each set of bookmatched halves...

    JM-WR wiring diagram help!

Hi all, Hoping for some "proofreading" on my Jazzblaster wiring diagram... Do I have this right? Two Novak JM-WR pickups with coil taps (three wires each), two volume (push-pull) pots, master tone (no-load; will occupy the usual output jack location on the pickguard), 3-way toggle switch...

    Recessed electrosocket port

Try it on scrap and see how it goes. I really wanted to use two Forstner bits in succession but never managed to get a perfect result.

    Recessed electrosocket port

I hear ya and I respect your considerable experience! However, without a floor drill press and a way to clamp the body to it to drill precisely with a Forstner bit, my attempts at that method were way more ugly than what I was able to do with the hole saw. That is a slick idea!

    Recessed electrosocket port

I did! LOL Once you find the right blade, that little bandsaw is a force to be reckoned with!

    Recessed electrosocket port

I've seen a couple of different methods described to create a recessed port for an electrosocket, but this one worked so well for me that I thought I'd post it here for other builders. I'm in the midst of building four guitars (one Tele, three Jazzmasters) using a chambered "clamshell" approach...

    Don Mare Pickups

No, he did not. His webpage says ETA of 4-6 months and that's fine as I'm happy just to be getting another set of Hayrides!

Tips on "clamshell" chambered body construction?

And we have chambering templates! For the top half of the body: And the bottom half: And, since I also found a killer piece of Honduran mahogany and will have plenty of Ohio black walnut for a centered "sandwich" layer, I whipped up a Tele chambering template as well...
