Thank you. This is the one I will finish first in that case. This one is also for myself, so I can hardly wait to finish it :).

    Brotherhood Build 2021 edition

The Tele I am working on this one. I was trying to build a new body for it, since the old was crap :). I cut the shape, but its still over 3inches thick. So I am nowhere near done with this one :).

    Brotherhood Build 2021 edition

2 of the others are these ones here. This is from the timber my grandpa used. I need to build a whole new neck for 1 of these. Only difference to these pics is that I have removed the old lead paint. Nothing is glued up on these.

    Brotherhood Build 2021 edition

Dave, how about my projects? One of them was the one I built for my grandpas last birthday. It was a rush job back then, so I decided to redo everything using timber he used. This is the one with green stain that turned blue. I need to rebuild the sides for it and figure out why it turned green.

    Brotherhood Build 2021 edition

I am seriously considering joining this. The thing thats holding me back is that I have 4 major projects (2 guitars and 4 basses) I need to get done. I also have to finish the workshop (needs to seal the roof and insulate the inside + new flooring) . So is it possible to join with that goal? To...

What was the name of your first band?

I grew up in church choirs and church bands, so here there were also not any band names. So the first real band we formed was in just around 1991. We were called Resurrection Rappers. And yes, we were a rapband. All original songs and lyrics - where I wrote the lyrics. The problem was that we...

NGD! Washburn something. Stage series. Mystery. Could be a '79 serial number? odd details. Project.

Hehe now you know why I am hooked as well. I never buy any instruments unless its a Daion or Washburn. The only issue I have is also the weight, but there are ways around that. I always use a chair anyway, so that works for me :). I totally fell in love with these instruments due to the sound...

Personally, I am not a big SD fan when it comes to pickups. I have heard some that are good, but to me you pay for the brand way too much. As for what makes these sound the way they do... Thats a really difficult one to answer. The timber used was the best of the best. We know that much. It was...

@GreenMagicMan Nice repair. For whats its worth, keep as many of the original parts in storage as you can. Its ok to change things, but the value of these are in the original shape. I know yours was far from that from the beginning, but still :). As for the EMG pickups. There is a reason why we...

    Winter: Project X

Do what I do. I glued 2 pieces of thin veneer together - cross grain glued - and that was it. You wont find a stronger piece and it doesnt crack when you cut it. I did this on the first inlay I made - the maple dove inlay. I tried for 2 weeks to figure out how to cut this maple veneer and it...

Why a plastic cover? Make a wooden cover that matches the guitar itself

Now THATS really cool. I didnt expect that at all. Its the Maxon style - sort of. This style were mainly used on Yamaki branded instruments from 1976-1977. In fact, I think this is the first Washburn I have seen with this style of serial number. The number dates it to April 2d 1977 on the...

The pots are typical generic pots from the 80s. They dont tell any story when it comes to Yamaki made instruments. They were being sold from Chushin as the distributor. If that was the case these would date to 1985 - which we know is not correct :). So you can totally disregard that number.

@Longhardgrind Did you check if the serial number is on the cover for the switch?

No worries. I love to learn new things about these - and even after all this research, I still learn things :). Mr. Hiro-san also helped a lot with the dating of this one. The first model of the 79 acoustic, was all black binding. He then had the idea so second production run of the 79 was with...

@Longhardgrind I have an apology to you. I got a bit of clarification on what Mr. Hiro-san was saying. The binding on yours is the same as the binding on the acoustic Daion Model 79. That makes a BIG difference. Now we only miss the serial number to confirm when its from 100%. As of right now...

I got an answer from Mr. Hiro-san. There are some really funny details in that. "Wao, this looks like Yamaki-Made A-20. I’ve absorbed ideas from Rudy and he does the same from Daion. The ‘79 is as you know, black painted acoustic with gold bindings. Binding material is not Brass but...

    Mbechmann's workshop - update?

Glad to be back even if things have slowed down a LOT. I am hoping to be able to finish 1 instrument a year from now on. If I do semi-builds I might get lucky and finish 2, but thats stretching it a bit :)

97% of all info on the internet is incorrect or misleading. I have been doing research into these instruments the last 8 years or so - and I am a part of a 3 person team that did this. I have read well over 6000 webpages, 3000 magazines, about 100 books and talked to more people than I can...

    Mbechmann's workshop - update?

Muscular dystrophy is not something you can cure, so its something I have to deal with for the rest of my life. I will most likely end up in a wheelchair. Thanks. Glad to be back. Different, but good to be back. Thank you. I can hardly wait to hear the bass :). I do have several project I...

    Mbechmann's workshop - update?

Thank you Dave. I forgot to post the pics from the front of the bass :). First time I ever worked with epoxy. The first picture is how it looked when I got it. Then a couple of progress pics. The covers by the way, are made out of the cut offs from the top - so they match the graining almost...
