Just a closer walk with thee - Patsy Cline And Willie Nelson

Not sure if has been influenced by the Rastafarians or if it is the other way around...........

How to improve as a not-so-newbie?

Mike has some good suggestions here. The bottom line is that there just is no substitution for practice and play time. Playing the songs your church does, and playing live with any of the players who play there is the most valuable play time you can get. If you can't play live with others...

Yep. "Everywhere present". Just one example among many that I've witnessed. I listened to a young guy who plays with our youth group play a lead the other day which was really a nicely done melody line. His delay clashed in a few places where the delayed note was dissonant with the tonality...

:lol::lol: Ascending or descending lines in the major diatonic scale, or the same done with octaves. If you call that lead playing, then,......yes. Of course such "lead" work must be done with a HUUUUUGE verb, and at least two rhythmic delays with the repeats set as loud as the initial...

Drum Players Who Raised The Bar. Your Favorites. Your Opinion.

Yes, he did play with Chick Corea in the Chick Corea Elektric Band.

If he's been mentioned, I didn't see it, which surprises me that at 5 pages he has not been mentioned multiple times. Dave Weckl

Sweetwater: Impressive and Jarring all at once

My youngest son who is a pretty serious drummer has progressed significantly both in his ability and taste. I've spent a lot of time on Reverb looking for cool Cymbals over the past few months. Pedals got nothing on Cymbals for cork sniffing and expense.....

Sweetwater: Impressive and Jarring all at once

I've read other threads in which people complain about calls from Sweetwater sales reps. One man's meat is another man's poison, so not everyone has the same perspective. My SW sales guy has called me twice over the past year or so. I don't mind it. I actually like talking to him. He's a...

What do you do for in-ears?

@hotraman asks some good questions and makes some great suggestions. I approach IEM's and the ability to hear what I need to hear as a process of subtraction rather than addition. If I can't hear the lead vocals I turn other instruments, including myself, down until I can. I keep doing this...

Can't Find a Contemporary Music Service That Rocks

We used to do a kind of Rockabilly medley of I saw the light and I'll fly away. People would clap and grin and sing loud. It was fun. We also did a George Thorogood style version of the Old Rugged Cross in open G. That rocked and again people would clap and stomp and sing loud. I'll have to...

Can't Find a Contemporary Music Service That Rocks

If you consider Tomlin, Hillsong, and especially Baloche to be "Rock", then you and I have different definitions for that word. ;) Crowder has a great range of styles in his music. I always enjoy playing his stuff. I also enjoy Brewster,, and wish we did more of his songs.

A little tongue in cheek; Incessant Tuning?!?

;)I tune mine when I play on Sunday whether it needs it or not.....We have lots of players, and I play at church about once a month, so I tune about half as many times as you. Seriously, I always tune between services, and between songs if I have a string obviously out.

It's funny isn't it how musical styles come and go like bell bottoms and Hash Jeans. One of the churches that I played at 20 years ago has moved on (mostly) from the Bethel/Hillsong shimmer delay thing, like 10 years ago. Other churches are just getting into it. I purposely bring a Plexi type...

Well said. I try hard (not always, maybe not even often, successfully) to live Philippians 2:3-4 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, Rather in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." I agree...

In our context, the main issue was that most members of our worship band had no interest in the formula that this individual had been taught/indoctrinated with. He couldn't acknowledge that there was any other way to "do worship". When people disagreed with that formula, there were many temper...

We had a graduate of the Bethel worship program who created a very large amount of drama, hate and discontent within our worship ministry a couple years ago. Hmmmmm Sorry to hear of the damage done, but you'll be in a better place after getting rid of the cancer.

Yep! "if I'm watching (listening to, reading) the room I can help lift and release things. It's lovely to play a lick or a fill or a spontaneous support motif and see people physically respond." This is so right on the money! I've seen this happen in real time so many times, it is wonderful to...

So, practicing a little before practice for Sunday service tonight. Doing a song called Center My Life (which by the way I don't understand and is basically a meaningless throw away line). To quote Studio: Formulated and businesslike. Yuck.

    New Church guitar build: "Esquire"

Rod, AKA Goldie, I missed this thread somehow. I just watched the vid. Nicely done man! Both the guitar and the recording! It's like a custom color 50's esquire which is cool. You'll have to do a follow up with the Hiwatt. Would love to hear that! Anyway, wanted to just say great job on...
