    1st Tele build, finishing schedule

People say the knots add character and that’s fine if a “rustic look” is your thing. On the Fender Butterscorch Blond, translucent white undercoat is applied (basically a Mary Mary White) before the Butterscotch color. The purpose is to obscure knots and grain miss-match on multi-piece bodies...

    1st Tele build, finishing schedule

You can try it and see, but if it is latex based probably not. I would just try a Qtip wetted with water first to see if it is water soluble. That knot wood is very hard so if you have to pick the filler out, it won't harm anything. An alternative and less invasive method is to apply a bit of...

    1st Tele build, finishing schedule

I don't think grain filler will be necessary. I would make an attempt to remove the existing filler in the knot at the guitar's waist and replace it with a filler more neutral in color. It looks like latex drywall spackle was used there which would be easily removed if wetted and wiped away. If...

    Single worst line of lyrics....

Yeah but "No comprende, it's a riddle" more than makes up for it. I've always thought that song blew harder than the Berg wind. Talented studio musicians can't be expected to be wordsmiths. The lyrics sound like a middle schooler trying to write a poem about Africa.

    What a long haul

Inset the word "theoretically" and a comma just before that "You shouldn't have to sand ..." post and you are closer to the truth. Even the best painters with the best equipment in a hermetically sealed spray booth don't lay down a perfectly smooth, dust-free, finish coat every time. Every shop...

Jay Turser JT-LT Custom Deluxe upgrades?

Look at difference in the length of the bridge plate diagrams. Yours (Modern) is 95mm long and the vintage style is 86mm. You won't make up that scale difference with the normal length string saddle screws and the string through holes come up through the body in a different location also. If...

At a dead end on the Zuwei company- who are they

All that said, when it comes to a $200 Chinese-made guitar, who really cares who made it as long as it plays satisfactorily. It hardly carries any cause for concern over after-purchase support. You buy it, it works, you play it. If it doesn't, you return it and file the experience under lessons...

Here is what they guy is actually telling you between the lines: "We don't make the guitars, we're a marketing company selling guitars we buy from multiple ghost builders. We will not tell you who makes them because you may try and go around us and buy direct from them." Over my career in...

What do you as a Bad Dog member actually think of a Telecaster?

Primitive instrument with an unusable neck pickup that has survived the ages. I'm still in the Strat camp as far as favorites.

    George Harrison's Telecaster

That made me spit out my coffee. Perfect. What was that guy playing? I'll admit I wouldn't recognize his music even if it landed in my lap and wiggled but if somebody handed me George Harrisons Gretsch for example, I'd be riffing every old Beatles' standard I could think of just to hear them on...

    How do you handle regret?

Yeah, everyone has different ways of coping with shock and grief but no one can predict the outcome of a random act. The post about the girl hopping the barricade at a cliff well known for suicides would be a call to action to prevent a possible suicide. Someone randomly drifting through your...

Jay Turser JT-LT Custom Deluxe upgrades?

If you stock with an import spec bridge you should find an exact replacement. Just bear in mind what you have is a modern bridge, not a vintage style bridge. The resulting scale length will be off if you use a vintage bridge. The rocking of the saddles is due to operator error. String tension...

    George Harrison's Telecaster

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but that guitar sounded like a plinky little Glarry guitar the way it was being played. So disappointing, but some guitars (and players) are more legend and hype than fact.

What Gives a Twin Reverb Its Sound?

Way back when I gigged, my 4x10 Standel crapped out and the store (Roselle Music) gave me a Silverface Twin with JBL's as a loaner while the Standel was being repaired. I didn't want to give it back. We had one rehearsal before the gig and the lead player and I were fighting over it. I can...
