Looking for affordable pedal for rockabilly/surf

    Cheap banjos are awful, though.

What if I have two pedals that need to be first?

    Oscillated and glitchy is great.

    Clean boost.

The spark mini is great. As it the clean model from the boss fz-2 or clones of that.

Fuzz is fine anywhere in your chain.

Stacking YouDirtyRat with MXR Distortion +?

The distortion plus stacks well with lots of different pedals, largely because it’s nice but bland.

Looking for affordable pedal for rockabilly/surf

what kind of surf are you doing? If you’re into man or astroman or other weirder/more modern sounding surf, you may get some mileage out of a reverb pedal that can do some funkier things.

Looking for affordable pedal for rockabilly/surf

The old behringer reverb pedal that I think was called the “reverb machine” sounds surprisingly good, and that’s coming from someone who was in a surf band and owns a RI fender reverb unit. As far as slapback delay goes, i think almost any delay pedal with a low noise floor is probably going to...

Why would you care about a low serial number?

    Is there one do-it-all amp?

I don’t have a ton of experience with them, but maybe the mesa mark series? I had a neighbor with one of those, and it’s one of the only amps I’ve played that has gorgeous fender style cleans and car roar intensely enough for metal, hardcore, or crust punk without having to use a distortion...

Ok fair enough. If the stock speakers died that would be something different.

That sounds like poor product design to me. The amp either shouldn’t put out that much volume or the speakers should be able to handle it. That’s like a stove that you can turn up to seven, but when you hit eight, it catches fire.

Faking keys (or horn) parts on guitar?

I just faked a horn line on a world/inferno friendship society cover on our last single. I didn’t even try to work out the harmony, i just grabbed the lead melody, but it worked pretty well. I think a more involved multi horn horn line might take more work to do it justice. But most of what I...

What kind of pedals was your friend using? If we’re trying to troubleshoot/keep it from happening again, that may matter. I’m curious if he was running some enormous amount of gain/boost or something like that. Anything with super high or low frequencies might damage a speaker but i can’t...

An amp that can’t handle being dimed was either poorly designed or has something wrong with it. Especially if he was just playing guitars through it and not using some kind of pedal that self oscillates or a synth or something that’s going to hit it with a sound wave that it’s not expecting.

How important is tube generated reverb and tremolo to you?

Pedal based is better because it’s easier to swap out than replacing a tank or trying to figure out how to mod the amp circuit to put trem in.

How important do you feel mastering is?

Early mayhem is great. Newer mayhem doesn’t do much for me. Watain blew them off the stage the one time i saw them a few years ago.

How important do you feel mastering is?

I’ve never interacted with Fenriz, but he seems super knowledgeable about music and has a pretty clear vision. He’s also a house music dj. Making something that noisy where you can still tell what’s going on is harder than it seems, although the overall lack of low end for that whole scene...

How important do you feel mastering is?

It wouldn’t shock me if those two guys knew exactly what they wanted and had some idea how to get it. That being said, they did pay someone I’m friends with to master at least one of their albums. Not going to mention names in case i don’t wind up going with them.

How important do you feel mastering is?

Actually the website i was just looking at was for someone who mastered a darkthrone record. Off the top of my head, my reference points for records i kinda wanna sound like are sisters of mercy, tragedy, godflesh, mid period cure, swans, killing joke, the last birthday party album, and old...

How important do you feel mastering is?

My band is closing in on finishing our first full length. I’ve only ever put out cdr demos or straight to bandcamp demos. I’ve been in this version of this band for about five years, and this is going to be, by far, the biggest musical (or honestly, artistic) statement I’ve put out so far...
