RIP Marvin Lee Aday aka Meatloaf

"Meat Loaf Again?" One of the many audience participation lines during Rocky Horror Picture Show scene where he is singing "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul". Thanks Meat for the good times.

Had a great walk this morning

I was walking every morning 3.5 - 5 miles for the past 6 months. Since I have moved into a new place I need to find the trails nearby. I guess I could always drive, but its so much more convenient to have a trail right outside your door. We have a nice trail system that follows the local wash...

    I Want A 380

Been looking at CC compact sized pistols, preferably in 9mm, just 'cause I already have one. Problem is that small guns just won't fit in my hands, need something in XL grip size. Full size 1911s just fit so nice.

    Epic lunch thread!

Chicken Salad. It was missing something though, I added cayenne but not enough to taste.

21 year old musician has encounter with mountain lion at Pyramid Lake

One creature I have never encountered out in the wild. Though I am sure they have encountered me.

What is an unspoken rule about getting through society and life that annoys you when other people don't honor it?

Right of way is big for me, regardless if it's pedestrian and cars or two cars. If you are turning and stop to wave the left turn guy to go forward, you are just confusing the other driver, and causing everyone else to be delayed.

    Grandparents' cars.

My maternal Grandfather was a Plymouth man. The car I remember the most was a huge boat of a 1970's Plymouth Fury, kind of like this: Big 383 propelled the green sled pretty well. Chrysler AC would freeze your toes off. I remember driving the car and almost getting it airborne off a sudden...

Another calm day in my peaceful neighborhood

Even in my parent's neighborhood of retired seniors, we saw Sheriff's deputies descending on a home nearby. They had a huge mobile crime lab and half a dozen detectives with them. They were searching for a body in a dumpster. Not sure if they found what they were looking for.

    Harmless little critter

They destroyed an old shopping mall I used to go to when I was young for this movie. Funny they mention Godzilla in the promo, that was the last movie I saw in the theater where the mall was. Pretty sure there is a giant Walmart there now. EDIT: Just went back and watched the trailer and it...

So the new Frontier is a Tacoma?

My son just got a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4wd. The new Cherokee is a joke compared to that truck. I will be looking for an early/mid 2000s Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, or Toyota Tacoma or Tundra for camping and towing duties. The new trucks have just become too expensive.

    Piano Tuning as a career. . .

Friend of mine tunes pianos and restores harpsicords. He also plays in a classical quartet and a country band. A man of many talents. He tuned my parent's grand piano a few years ago. It was quite entertaining to watch. It was a show and a learning experience. Like you said, it's partly science...

    Northern Hemisphere Peeps-Have you noticed…

Definitely. I can walk anytime during the day here during the winter months, and it's just beautiful. I cannot do that in the summer months. You can only go out in the mornings and evenings during those months. For the time of day in the winter, you get the relative cold (we are all...

    Northern Hemisphere Peeps-Have you noticed…

I would rather go on my morning walk when its sunny and 90 degrees at 5:30 AM than walk when its dark and 37 degrees. I have noticed I start off cold and end up hot this time of year. At least in the summer you can wear shorts and deal with sweat.

One Meal A Day - Intermittent Fasting

I think that the "multiple small meals" advice will not hold up well as people age and start to suffer from insulin resistance. That was the main driver for me to go to low carb (low sugar) and IF. My blood sugar had come back high in my last lab test, and trying to do something to halt or...

    Catalytic Converter Theft Ring Busted!

Last time I went to San Francisco was for a tech conference sometime in the mid 1990's. I remember one of my associates describing the street people as "aggressive panhandlers". I think that was a good description. I work in a very upscale part of Scottsdale. More exotic cars per square mile...

One Meal A Day - Intermittent Fasting

I have been following a 16/8 fasting plan. It's basically skipping breakfast. But I have made other changes to the foods I eat. I have been doing this since July, and have dropped 30 lbs. One meal a day sounds extreme. If you would like to do something less, check into a 5/2 plan, where you...

The Slow Death of a Shopping Mall

The Slow Death of a Shopping Mall

In a city with a metro population of nearly 5 million, there are probably two malls that are still going. There was about a dozen a few short years ago. The decline of the shopping mall started long before the events of the past year or two, and are driven by changes to the way people shop and...

    Depressing Betta fish

They can survive very poor water conditions, because they are essentially air breathing fish. Some are quite beautiful. They definitely deserve to be placed in a nice mellow community tank where other fish won't pick on them. They seem to do pretty well with live bearers, but they will eat other...

Web Sites You've Had It With - Any Why

I look at it for the lols. Some old codger saw a coyote running next to their neighborhood and has to warn everyone on nextdoor. Or nosy people trying to find out what the sirens were about at 2:00 AM. Or warning everyone about someone sketchy knocking on their door. But for the most part it's...

Worst automotive year ever - I agree.

I had Toyota pickups through the first half of the '80s. No major complaints with any of those. The first had no A/C and 2 wheel drive. I found it was terrible in the snow. So I got an '83 4x4. Did great in the snow, but it rode like a bucking horse. So I got an '86 extended cab 4x4. Loved that...
