    You've been called the worst...your best/worst retort?

Not exactly an insult, but my father and I went to breakfast and had the worst waiter ever. My father was talking to him and he just turned and walked away. Everything was slow, we we couldn’t get refills on our coffee, just awful. I didn’t have a penny so I left him a nickel for a tip. He...

It's 32 degrees and you're driving on the highway...

Has the temp been in the 40’s or 20’s and for how long? What vehicle are you driving? What tires? How much traffic? How long have you been driving? How much experience in these conditions? Are you a good driver? Do you know your limitations? Unless you’re actually behind the wheel...

    Dogs shedding

I had an Aussie and I'd get tired of brushing long before all the loose hair came out. It wouldn't matter how many times a day you brushed them.

    Dogs shedding

At one time I had four dogs and two cats. I could brush everyone, vacuum up and two hours later it would look like I hadn't vacuumed in a week. About all you can do is brush every day and vacuum every day. As to old wives tales, I leave them to old wives.

    Tips on relicing?

Let me start by saying that I LOVE a good relic job, so I'm NOT anti-relic. I have a couple myself. Having said that, if you don't know what you're doing, they look awful and fake. There aren't a lot of people that can do a really good relic job; it's as much art as it is science. I'd skip the...

Anyone know a good guitar trio version of AWB Pick up the Pieces?

OTHER THAN Jeff Golub? I like his, but I'm looking for variety here. I just spent about an hour on Youtube and listened to excerpts of about 50 videos, but there aren't very many people bringing any fresh looks to the song. I'm putting together a trio and will probably do the song, I'd just...

Did You Grow Up Without a TV Remote?

We had a small B&W TV until I was 16. Out of the blue, my father came home one day with a big color TV with a remote. I almost fell over. There was a very hinky story about a good deal and somebody going out of business that I was smart enough to not question too closely.

Anyone learn a second language as an adult?

I didn't say it would be easy. Again, you find a way to do the things that are important to you. I've been an IT manager for more than 25 years. Easily 75% of the people that have worked for me have come from foreign countries and the vast majority of them came here as adults, most of them...

Anyone learn a second language as an adult?

It's been my experience that you find a way to do the things that are important to you and you find excuses to NOT do the things that aren't important to you. I'm not saying that it's easy or that someone is going to hand it to you, but if you want to learn English in America, you can.

10 Reasons Why Vintage Guitars Are Not Worth The Money

I saved myself time and aggregation and skipped the link. If you don’t like vintage instruments, don’t buy them. No need to rain on the parades of people that like them.

What brand of boots do you wear?

I originally wore, and swore by, Frye square toe boots. I switched to Harley Davidson boots about 15 - 20 years ago. I think they are every bit as well made as Frye and I found them on sale a couple of times for under $100. Unfortunately a motorcycle accident necessitated rebuilding my foot and...

    I'm Getting Reverse-GAS-Syndrome?

There’s nothing wrong with minimalism, but I worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to get to the point where I can afford some luxuries; I don’t think there is anything wrong with that either. If someone buys a nice picture or sculpture and they just look at it, no one blinks an eye. A guy...

Why do we never hear about Randy Rhoads' students?

It’s been my experience that if you add up all the things famous people did on their way up, they apparently had between 48 and 72 hours in each day, unlike the 24 we mortals are limited to.

I wanted to love the new ToneMasters

It’s considered overpriced by people who have no concept of what it costs to take a product from concept to consumer. They have no concept of the costs of just keeping the doors open from the janitor, maintenance, insurance, utilities, security, infrastructure, shipping, etc, etc, etc. They add...

    Band room broken into

Sorry that happened. I’d like to see the thieves hung by their balls, but this is why you should never leave anything anywhere that you can’t afford to lose. $5k worth of equipment at a band room???? Not in this lifetime. When I played keys I bought an inexpensive 80’s Korg to leave at...
