Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

The planning is challenging, for sure. I have a friend who recently retired with a pension (and, fortunately, health insurance in perpetuity). The great thing is that his pension is unaffected by market fluctuations. BUT, his concern is inflation, as the pension isn’t inflation-adjusted. On...

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Thank you all again! This thread has been very meaningful to me. Beyond what I anticipated.

    Why I Hate FedEx!!

More importantly, is your dog Giorgio or Ralph? Mine is firmly, undoubtedly, Ralph. As evidenced by yesterday’s photo:

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I myself was asleep at the wheel for far too long. Now that I’m finally waking up and realizing my own mortality, I’m trying to make the most of it. I find joy in so many little things nowadays. That first cup of coffee in the morning. My kids getting along...

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Ugh, I’m so sorry to hear this. I wish you all the best and I hope that your pain is manageable.

Anyone Else In The Wrist Knuckle Club?

Not as pronounced as yours, but noticeable. It affects where I wear a watch (further back from the bony protrusion).

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Yeah, I’m my prior life as an engineer I drove 25k-30k miles per year. In the NYC metro area. That was pure torture.

Guitar/bass tech suggestion in Westchester, NY?

Is this the right place? I only ask because you mention a Rich, but it looks like a John. http://www.starguitars.net/ Thanks again

Guitar/bass tech suggestion in Westchester, NY?

Hi all, I typically get guitar/bass setups done by a tech in NYC. But getting there and back isn’t ideal as I work in midtown and he’s in north Manhattan. Does anyone have a suggestion convenient to Westchester County, NY? Thanks!

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Oddly, that’s something that I haven’t minded. 45 minutes on the train each way gave me time to read.

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

It was a particularly rough 7 years on the work front which I won’t bore you with (and nothing others here haven’t gone through). But that, along with not making time for exercise (my own fault), certainly made me realize my own mortality. I was out with a chain saw yesterday and was unnaturally...

Who is able to run their amps open at gigs?

Only at outdoor gigs (20-watt tube amp) without it attenuated, but it has a built in attenuator on board.

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

It sounds like you have the right attitude. And most of my colleagues retired your way.

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

This is a treasure trove. I had one set of grandparents that retired in their 60s and, but for a few trips to Atlantic City each year and my grandfather playing the organ and music in the Freemasons, they largely sat is front of the TV for 30 years assuming that they had no more than a year...

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Thanks to all that have contributed! This has gotten my mind going. Other things that this has brought to mind: - I can be a sound guy (now that I’ve been doing it for my kids for a while). - I’ve done a fair bit of photography and can do some of that here and there for pleasure, charity (like...

I’m an introvert by nature. But the thing that shall not be named showed me that I need interaction.

If you had 7 pairs of shoes...

New Balance has been making my beloved 990s for 40 years. Sure, they are v1-v6 (I haven’t yet had a v6), but for well over 10 years have been indistinguishable to me. They don’t tweak the formula too much given their success. https://hypebeast.com/2021/6/new-balance-990-history-v1-v6-feature

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

Part of this is my motivation: to retire on my own terms and not forced due to health, which is what I fear if I push it beyond 55. I have two friends that were in similar shoes to you and one remained very positive and leads a very productive and happy life after many procedures related to...

Have you ever accidentally tatooed yourself?

I wonder what became of these kids. Maybe it is a prelude to something more, like torturing animals. Mine was in 1983, so maybe it was a thing back then.

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

I wish I knew that 20 years ago. I always figured I’d get around to it. But I’m trying to regain / maintain some functional health.

Question for the retirees (post-retirement activities)

I think the issue that I have is not having a bunch of time pre-retirement to maintain hobbies long-term. But it sounds like you’ve tried new things but have been flexible.
