    Help me country

Good thread. I'm no master of anything, and there are lots of ways, but here's how I'd suggest you skin that cat: 1) Focus first on the cowboy keys A, C, D, E, G. In each one learn first the I, IV, and dominant V chords, and its diatonic and pentatonic major scales. 2) Use The Marty Stuart...

Best battery-powered amp for busking - playing blues with an electric guitar

Mine's a Fender Mini Passport that I bought with the gift certificate I got from my colleagues at retirement. I bought a rechargeable battery that it plugs in to, it will last several days, maybe a week, if I'm careful to turn the amp off when I'm not using it. Because of grounding I guess...

What's your hometown's claim to fame

Also the birthplace and home town of its author, Margaret Mitchell, as well as the place where she was runt over by a bus (or something like that) and kilt. GWTW is a very good book.

If you were one of the best amp repair people in the nation,

I would collect testimonial statements from satisfied customers. I'd let them say I was the best in the nation if they felt that way, but I'd never say it myself; even if it's true it comes off as arrogance, and that turns people off. I'd sign up as a vendor on likely-looking forums, focus my...

What's The One Piece Of Gear You Can't Live Without?

If I hit the highway with just what I can carry, that will have to be my classical Takamine. It holds up in its own right as a quality instrument, against the other guitars I have, but it stands above all the others in sentimental attachment, even though now I rarely play it. Bondo every time...

    The "Shared" Gig

I don't gig, wouldn't know where to start, and it's best that I stay out of bars and taverns. I've thought about renting a venue and doing something along the lines of a "recital". Sharing that with another performer or two might be a great idea.

Now that Dumble is RIP... I'm curious

I think that hits the nail on the thumb. Except for direct business, Mr. Dumble seemed to be a man who preferred being left alone. That deserves respect.

How much does what you learned to play on still influence what you use today?

Me too, with my Takamine classical, but when I do play it I love it.

How much does what you learned to play on still influence what you use today?

Yooge. My first Takamine is gone now, victim of a schoolroom accident, but I've been a dyed-in-the-wool Takamine nut since I bought it in 1976. I'm down to three Taks now, but they're very good Taks!

    The stigma of yoga

I have pains where there should be nothing but aches. I've been thinking for some time about trying yoga. This stigma business is giving me second thoughts. I would get a gun or two, speaking of stigmas--I grew up around guns and enjoyed shooting them in my youth--but there are too many...

    What a hard tough honor.

My sister called me from Ecuador just before she died. I wasn't home, so she left a voice message. I left it on the message queue until (I guess) the phone company aged it out. 😢 (Cancer.)
