(Tele) Seymour Duncan Broadcaster set Neck pickup (Used to be called STR-1) Too Dark.....

Do you just live with this or have you tried to do something about it? If you have tried to do something about it - what options have you tried out? How successful has each option been? Big thanks!

(Tele) Seymour Duncan Broadcaster set Neck pickup (Used to be called STR-1) Too Dark.....

I have a Mexican Fender Tele from 2001/2002. I found the stock pickups muddy and harsh. I was after a vintage tone that had "twang" with no ice-pick trebles and also had enough beef for classic rock territory. I was recommended the Seymour Duncan STR-1 neck and STL-1b (broadcaster) bridge...

Advice on Seymour Duncan STR-1 neck and STL-1b (broadcaster) bridge combination

Thanks for your response. What gave you better clarity on the Seymour Duncan STR-1 STR-1 with brass cover with tone control taken out OR STR-1 with nickel silver cover and tone control re-added?

Advice on Seymour Duncan STR-1 neck and STL-1b (broadcaster) bridge combination

Thanks for your info. Does the 500k pot make the bridge pickup too bright? How do you set up your guitar and amp tonally so that both the neck and bridge pickups sound good and tonally balanced with each other?

Advice on Tonerider Pickups for Telecaster....Please!

I'm after a set that twangs well and sounds great clean but also can take some overdrive and gain well for some rocky and alternative material. Would be really interested to hear from anyone who has used more than one of the sets. It would be amazing to hear from anyone who has used all 3 sets...

Silver Stripe Peavey Bandit 112 Speaker Replacement?

I have a USA manufactured "silver stripe" Peavey Bandit 1x12 (80 Watts) with Sheffield Speaker. I find the amp a too "ice-pick" / harsh at the top end. Is it worth trying a different speaker to tame that top end - or should I just buy another amp? Anybody had any success with speaker...

Pickup cover change on Seymour Duncan STR-1 (neck pickup)

Thanks wildschwein. I read some of the feedback to the article in the Link. One guy said he got a phasing /change of sound from phasing in the middle position after carrying out the modification. I use this position a lot so don't want to take a chance on any phasing issues. To anyone else...

Pickup cover change on Seymour Duncan STR-1 (neck pickup)

The neck pickup (STR-1) on the Seymour Duncan Broadcaster set comes with a brass pickup cover. I find this pickup way too dark and dull and lacking in character. (The bridge pickup (STL-1b), by the way, I really like!) I have been given various pieces of advice about what to do about the STR-1...

Old Squier Affinity - Good Modding Platform or not?

I'm seeing a number of 2nd hand/used Squier Affinity Tele's on sale (private sales) for around £130 - £150. From what I've read - I would look to install Tonerider Hot Classics pickups (Alnico III's. I'm told these or something very similar are in the Vintage blonde Classic vibe) and replace...

Best Neck Pup Match Tonally and for Output for Seymour Duncan STL-1b (Broadcaster/Bridge)???

Thanks for your help. I'm not too bothered about how accurately "vintage" the SD STL-1b Broadcaster is. It sounds great! I will try changing the STR-1 pickup cover from brass to nickel initially. I am not looking for more output from the STR-1 - I am looking for more clarity. If this does not...

Best Neck Pup Match Tonally and for Output for Seymour Duncan STL-1b (Broadcaster/Bridge)???

I have the recommended Seymour Duncan combination of STR-1 (neck) and STL-1b (Broadcaster/bridge) installed in my 2001/2002 Mex Tele. I love the STL-1b/Broadcaster! The STR-1 neck pup is dark, lifeless with little character. Please can anyone on here who has the SD STL-1b (Broadcaster/bridge)...

    Pickups in classic Vibe Teles?

Today I tried out a Classic Vibe Tele 50's Blonde (maple finger board) and a Classic Vibe Tele Custom (rosewood board). I much preferred the sound of CV 50's Blonde. The sales guy said the guitars had the same pickups and any differences would have been down to differences in fingerboard wood...

Hi Dougstrum. Thanks for your suggestion - I'll try it out.

Best Partscaster possible for under 500 pounds (UK)??

I am looking to build the best possible partscaster for under 500 pounds. I'm looking for a good versatile Tele but want to retain twangy sound that isn't too "ice-pick" sounding and also has enough "oomph"/beef to cope with everything from early Beatles sounds to early Zeppelin to Springsteen...
